The Atlanta Braves Shutout The New York Mets Behind Charlie Morton’s Arm

Atlanta, GA – The Atlanta Braves (72-46) won their eighth game in a row by shutting out the New York Mets (75-42), 5-0.

Braves pitcher Charlie Morton (6-5) allowed no runs in the win. He struck out 12 batters in 6.2 innings and only allowed three hits with a walk. This is Morton’s first shutout game since 2011.

Matt Olson hit a two-run home that drove in Austin Riley in the fourth inning and a single that scored Dansby Swanson in the seventh inning. This extended Olson’s hitting streak to eight games.

Robbie Grossman also hit a solo home in the third inning. It was his first home run with the Atlanta Braves.

Ronald Acuña Jr. walked four times with a run. He was thrown out twice for trying to steal second base.

The Atlanta Braves are now 3.5 games behind the Mets from first place in the NL East.

The projected starters for Wednesday’s game will be RHP Jake Odorizzi (4-4) for the Braves and RHP Max Scherzer (8-2) for the Mets.
