San Antonio Spurs have agreed to trade Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors for Demar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and a protected 2019 first round draft pick. The draft pick is protected for the 20th selection and above, after a year it will turn into two second round draft choices.

Spurs have been trying to find a trade partner for Kawhi, who was reportedly disgruntled and ready to move on from the Spurs since his injury (quad) that forced him to miss 73 games in the 2017-18 NBA season.

Leonard nor DeRozan seemed to be thrilled about the trade. DeRozan took to his Instagram story to express his thoughts…

Leonard, 27, is a two time Defensive Player of the Year and was a NBA Finals MVP. He also finished third in NBA MVP voting during the 2016-17 season after averaging 25.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game. With Leonard scheduled to become a free agent after this season, Toronto can offer him a five-year, $190 million contract. If he chooses to leave Toronto he will be eligible for a four-year, $141 million deal with any other team.

DeRozan, 28, is a four time All Star and last season averaged 23 points, 5.2 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game. He still has two years remaining on his contract including a player option for the 2020-21 season.
