Nashville- The Tennessee Titans played a hard fought game against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. They lost to drop to 2-8 on the season in what was one of the most enigmatic games on the season.
Overview
Will Levis and the TItans’ offense had one of their best performances as a unit with the second year quarterback having maybe his best game of the season.
Levis ended the game with 293 yards on 17/31 (54.8%) passing and a touchdown. That stat line included a huge 98-yard pass to Nick Westbrook-Ikhine for the Titans second longest play from scrimmage since Derrick Henry’s 99-yard run against the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018. Westbrook-Ikhine recorded his best game thus far, as he turned in 117 yards and a touchdown on two receptions.
He was very humble when asked about his role on the team.
“I’m just going to work, [I’m] just trying to do my job,” he stated. “I’m in a bible study group here in Nashville, we did a series on Daniel before the season and I feel like that’s been big for me cause Daniel was a guy that just went and did his job.”
Westbrook-Ikhine has recorded a touchdown in five of the Titans last six games, in fact excelling at his job.
The defense had a tough showing but not due to lack of effort.
The Titans forced three and outs or stops on multiple Minnesota drives, but penalties negated them. One of the biggest plays was a 4th down that would have given the Titans the ball back in the first quarter. Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold threw a prayer to Jordan Addison, who was hit by Titans safety Mike Brown.
The ensuing flag was for unnecessary roughness that gave the Vikings a second chance at scoring. That would be an overarching theme for the day as the Vikings would score 21 points off critical Titans penalties.
Positives
Play calling for the Titans was fluid and situationally sound. Levis looked comfortable throwing the deep ball and took operated the offense well.
Tennessee’s 40% Third Down conversion rate was their third best mark of the season.
Negatives
The team could not convert on the lone redzone trip of the afternoon. They also had their worst rushing performance of the season as they only totaled 33 yards for the game.
Defensively the Titians gave up 318 total yards, with 247 of those coming through the air.
Tennessee will have a two-game road trip coming as they go to Houston, Texas to face the Houston Texans in Week 12 and then the Washington Commanders in Week 13 in Landover, Maryland.
