Titans Get A 19-13 Win Over The 49ers In A Mixed Bag Preseason Showing

Santa Clara, CA — The Tennessee Titans played their first preseason game of the year and defeated the San Francisco 49ers, 19-13.

 

Overview

Defensively, the Titans looked solid. The first-team defensive line defended the run very well, relinquishing only 10 yards on the ground. The team was without John Franklin-Myers, who is dealing with a lower back injury, but despite his absence, the unit looked poised.

The secondary struggled with the first team. Cor’Dale Flott and Alontae Taylor both gave up big pass plays and committed penalties as well.

Cam Ward’s day was up and down. He started well, leading the team on a 95-yard drive that ended with a Tony Pollard touchdown. That would be the high point of the night, as the offense struggled on it’s next two drives.

The second and third units put on a good showing. Rookie halfback Nick Singleton put some good plays on tape and Mitchell Trubisky looked the part of a polished veteran backup.

The defense had the most standouts. Anthony Hill Jr. was very productive in limited action. Femi Oladejo and Keldric Faulk also made their presence felt as young edge defenders in this new defense.

The Titans earned an ugly preseason victory, with plenty of positives to build on and some negatives to learn from.

 

Positives

• The offensive line looked as if they improved as a whole.
• The rush defense was stout.
• The depth is good, with viable talent up and down the depth chart.

 

Negatives

• Cam Ward struggled to consistently string together accurate throws.
• The secondary looked mediocre at best.
