Tennessee Titans Rally in a Mixed-Bag Preseason Victory Over Seattle

Nissan Stadium – The Tennessee Titans come back from a 13-point deficit to defeat the Seattle Seahawks, 19-16, in their Week 2 preseason game.

Overview

After a strong showing in joint practices, the Titans came into the game with expectations of an equally strong performance.

The first-team defense allowed two touchdowns on big plays from Seattle’s reserves in their first two possessions, which put the team in a 13-3 hole early.

Elijah Arroyo scored on a blown coverage up the seam on a 36-yard pass from Drew Lock. On Seattle’s following drive, the Seahawks scored on another explosive play, a 69-yard Jacardia Wright handoff.

Robert Saleh displayed frustration about two the touchdowns.

“The two plays are hateful,”  stated Saleh, “Stuff like that happens when you go from a match team to a vision team like we are.”

Anthony Hill Jr. had a breakout game for the Titans at the linebacker position. He recorded five tackles and an interception. He was also credited with a pressure that led to a sack. He has continued his ascension into a promising young piece for Tennessee.

Cam Ward and the first-team offense managed to score just three points, which was a far different result from what they showed during practice reps just two days prior.

Ward went 8-of-12 for 69 yards on the night. He also had a fumble.

Despite that, the second and third-string offenses rallied to secure the win for Tennessee, scoring 16 total points, 10 of which came in the second half.

 

Positives

• Rookie Sensation: Anthony Hill Jr. broke out with a big performance that showed his continued growth.
• Off the Hook: Hendon Hooker got his first preseason action and looked solid.
• Deep Depth: Tennessee’s reserves looked good in extended action.

 

Negatives

• Undisciplined Play: Tennessee tallied 11 penalties for 100 yards.
• First-Team Struggles: Neither starting unit looked great, and both need to improve.
• Missing Tate: Carnell Tate went without a catch for the second consecutive preseason game and has yet to record a reception.
