The Tennessee Titans Fall Apart At Home Against The Colts

Nashville – The Tennessee Titans came into Sunday’s game looking for a second consecutive win and their first at home coming off a bye week. They won their week four matchup on Monday Night Football against the Miami Dolphins and would look to ride that momentum to win against the AFC South rival Indianapolis Colts.

The game had many ups and downs, as most Titans versus Colts games do, and was eventful to the very end.

Overview

The Titans offense came out lethargic on their opening drive, but seemed to right the ship as the game went on. They would score in each of the first three quarters behind strong offensive line play and some hard-nosed defense. The offense would finish the game with 229 total yards, most of it coming on the ground, as they totaled 146 yards rushing.

The offensive production was not flashy but got the job done for the most part. Will Levis did not have a turnover until the fourth quarter and seemed to be in control for most of the game.

The defense played well outside of a couple of untimely penalties. Tennessee held Indianapolis under 200 passing yards and only gave up 80 rushing yards.

The story of the game was the officiating.

Tennessee did not have a penalty flag called their way in the entire fourth quarter on either side of the ball. They also had 11 penalties called against them for their largest total of the year: 113 yards.

Tennessee dropped to 1-4 on the season after a three-point loss at home.

Positives

The Titans got their second forced turnover of the season and their first interception. They had been searching for ways to flip possession and have been in position and finally had one fall their way.

The ground game has paid dividends for this football team and they leaned on it Sunday. Tony Pollard has been nothing short of stellar for Tennessee, as he had yet another good game for the team. His 93-yard performance marks the third game this season that he has eclipsed 80+ yards on the ground.

The defense played well again for a fifth week. They gave up 189 yards to Joe Flacco and have only relinquished 200+ yards in one game on the season. Tennessee boasts the league’s best passing defense through six weeks of football.

Negatives

The team could not pull out a win at home for the third time in a row. They dropped games to the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets prior to Sunday’s loss. They held a lead in two of their three home losses.

The offense could not score in the fourth quarter despite having scoring drives in the first three quarters. This is the third time that the Titans have had the lead or tie going into the fourth quarter and lost.

This is also the Titans’ eighth game with a turnover on offense, dating back to Week 17 of the 2023 season.

Tennessee will now gear up to go to the Canadian border as they face the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo is undefeated at home and will look to keep that record unblemished as they host the 1-4 Titans in week seven.
