- Tennessee Titans Improve to 2-6 After OT Thriller In Nashville - November 3, 2024
The Tennessee Titans have to go through the age-old tradition of preseason roster cuts. The league-wide deadline is August 28th by 4pm eastern time.
Here is what the roster could look like going into their week one matchup against the Chicago Bears.
Quarterback (2)
Will Levis, Mason Rudolph
Tennessee has their starter in second-year man Will Levis who has been good this preseason, and Mason Rudolph has run the offense almost flawlessly with the second and third units. Levis is pretty durable so I don’t see the Titans carrying three men at this spot.
Running Backs (4)
Tyjae Spears, Tony Pollard, Julius Chestnut, Hassan Haskins
Spears and Pollard are going to be the RB1-A and RB1-B for the season so their roster spots are locked. Julius Chestnut has been the best backup performer in the preseason and should get a roster spot. Hassan Haskins is a special teams ace and will also earn a roster spot due to his value there.
Wide Receiver (7)
DeAndre Hopkins, Calvin Ridley, Tyler Boyd, Treylon Burks, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Jha’Quan Jackson, Kearis Jackson
The top five receivers are pretty obvious for the team as Hopkins, Ridley, Boyd, Burks and Westbrook-Ikhine are all locks. The last two spots will go to the team’s top returners in Jha’Quan and Kearis Jackson, as both have shown top tier ability as special teams threats.
Tight End (3)
Chig Okonkwo, Josh Whyle, David Martin-Robinson
Hard to see the Titans carrying more than three tight ends on this roster due to the team having depth at other positions. Whyle and Okonkwo will enter the season as the two mainstays and David Martin-Robinson should make the roster after a solid preseason as an undrafted free agent.
Offensive Line (9)
JC Latham, Peter Skoronski, Lloyd Cushenberry, Dillon Radunz, Nicholas Petit-Frere, Daniel Brunskill, Geron Christian Sr., Andrew Rupcich, John Ojukwu
It’s hard to see a world where Tennessee doesn’t keep nine-plus offensive lineman going into week one. The first unit has performed well in the preseason while players like Geron Christian Sr. and John Ojukwu have flashed as good backups at the tackle spots. Andrew Rupcich and Daniel Brunskill both bring value as they can play multiple interior-line spots and should make the opening-day roster.
Cornerback (5)
L’Jarius Sneed, Chidobe Awuzie, Roger McCreary, Eric Garror, Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
The Titans have made a concerted effort to get better at the cornerback position this offseason. Players like Chidobe Awuzie and L’Jarius Sneed will be locks to make the roster as the two outside corners. McCreary is the starting nickel back and Garror will back him up. Rookie Jarvis Brownlee Jr. is has been solid in preseason and training camp and will most likely earn a spot.
Safety (4)
Amani Hooker, Quandre Diggs, Jamal Adams, Elijah Molden
The safety spot is the most cut-and-dry position on the roster. Hooker, Diggs and Adams are all locks with Molden being the best reserve defensive back on the roster.
Defensive Line (6)
Jeffery Simmons, T’Vondre Sweat, Sebastian Joseph-Day, Keondre Coburn, TK McLendon Jr., Isaiah Iton
Simmons, Sweat and Joseph-Day will be the day-one starters for the Titans. Coburn has had an impressive preseason while Iton and McLendon Jr. have both been solid contributors as well. Tennessee should roll into the season with these six defensive linemen barring better options coming available on the waiver wire.
Linebacker (10)
Harold Landry III, Jack Gibbens, Kenneth Murray Jr., Arden Key, Rashad Weaver, Jaylen Harrell, Caleb Murphy, Chance Campbell, James Williams, Otis Reese IV
The TItans have a tough decision to make when it comes to the linebacker spot. Outside of the starters, they have some good players that they will have to let go of in this stacked room.
Chance Campbell has made a case to make this roster along with rookies Jaylen Harrell and James Williams. Fellow 2023 undrafted free agents Otis Reese IV and Caleb Murphy have also made cases for roster spots going forward.
Special Teams (3)
Nick Folk, Ryan Stonehouse, Morgan Cox
This one is simple, these are the three best specialists on the roster and are locks to make the team.
