- NFL Power Rankings Week 4 – Tales From The Football Unknown - September 25, 2024
The wild unknown that is the NFL season has morphed into a full blown enigma. The first two weeks look extremely different from each other. If there was any indication of the who’s the best and who’s the worst team in the league, it’s very vague at this point.
Week three should make everything much more clear, shouldn’t it?
1. Kansas City Chiefs (2-0)
Isaiah Pacheco suffered a fractured fibula and his timeline for return is unclear, but he will definitely be placed on IR. The Chiefs are signing running back Kareem Hunt to help fill the void.
2. Buffalo Bills (2-0)
Buffalo’s dominance over Miami continues for at least one more game. The Bills are 12-1 against Miami in their last 13 contests.
3. New Orleans Saints (2-0)
The Saints have scored a league high 91 points through two weeks. If I told you they would be the team to beat in the NFC after two weeks you would probably not have believed me.
4. Houston Texans (2-0)
Nico Collins has already gained 252 receiving yards and is averaging 18.0 yards per reception. He’s only scored one touchdown, but he has 12 catches that have resulted in first downs, which has helped extend offensive drives.
5. Los Angeles Chargers (2-0)
The change in philosophy has been working so far in two weeks of play. J. K. Dobbins has had a resurgence with the Chargers, rushing for 266 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries this season.
6. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0)
The Steelers are allowing an average of 8.0 points per game and 260.5 total yards from scrimmage. It’s safe to say opponents should beware of that side of the ball when facing Pittsburgh.
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-0)
The defense stepped up in week two, forcing a pair of turnovers and shutting out Detroit in the fourth quarter. The Buccaneers are allowing an average of 18.3 points per game.
8. San Francisco 49ers (1-1)
San Francisco has allowed a total of 42 points and 669 yards from scrimmage so far this season. They’ve allowed a total of five touchdowns on defense and scored only four on offense in their two games.
9. Detroit Lions (1-1)
Detroit has had a season of “barely’s” this season. They barely won their first game and they barely lost their second. Their total point differential is +2 so far this season.
10. Seattle Seahawks (2-0)
Geno Smith is averaging 9.8 yards per completion and already has a fourth quarter comeback and a game winning drive this season. Seattle in surprisingly in first place of the NFC West after two games.
11. Philadelphia Eagles (1-1)
A week after being the team’s savior, Saquon Barkley became the team’s scapegoat. He dropped a would be touchdown pass that probably would’ve sealed the victory. Instead Philadelphia had to settle for a Jake Elliot field goal, which left the door open for Atlanta to take the win.
12. Dallas Cowboys (1-1)
Dallas scored over 30 points in week one and then turned around a gave up over 40 points in week two. They face a desperate Baltimore team this week, so they might want to get back to their week one performance.
13. Minnesota Vikings (2-0)
Minnesota is allowing an average of 11.5 points per game and they have forced four turnovers in two games. They have allowed a total of two offensive touchdowns this season.
14. Green Bay Packers (1-1)
Malik Willis didn’t turn the ball over and even threw a touchdown pass in his first game in backup duty for the Packers. They’ll have to lean on Josh Jacobs, who’s averaging 117.5 rushing yards per game on the season.
15. New York Jets (1-1)
Aaron Rodgers is used to throwing touchdowns and controlling the offense throughout his illustrious career. This year he’s struggled to find his wide receivers and most of his touchdowns passes have gone to his running backs.
16. Arizona Cardinals (1-1)
So much for Marvin Harrison Jr. not being a factor. He scored the game’s first two touchdowns. He finished with four catches and 130 receiving yards along with the aforementioned touchdowns.
17. Miami Dolphins (1-1)
Tua Tagovailoa has suffered his third concussion in three years and he has officially been placed on IR. The Dolphins signed Tyler Huntley for depth and they will go with Skylar Thompson as the starter for the time being.
18. Cleveland Browns (1-1)
Despite the victory, the Browns’ offense has looked very pedestrian after two games. They have yet to gain 300 total yards or 200 passing yards in any game this season. They were able to eclipse 100 yards in rushing on Sunday and they are averaging 4.5 yards per carry.
19. Chicago Bears (1-1)
Caleb Williams finally looked like a rookie on Sunday and his offensive line didn’t do him any favors. He’s already been sacked nine times and he’s yet to throw a touchdown pass this season.
20. Baltimore Ravens (0-2)
Is it Baltimore’s offensive line, their need to get Mark Andrews involved, or their sudden lack of defensive intensity that has made them winless after two weeks?
21. New England Patriots (1-1)
The Patriots are an overtime field goal away from being undefeated. They are currently ranked second in rushing yards allowed and fifth in total yards allowed this season.
22. Atlanta Falcons (1-1)
Kirk Cousins engineered two second half touchdown drives, including the game winning drive to get Atlanta into the win column. The Falcons’ defense has only allowed two touchdowns to opposing offenses in two games.
23. Las Vegas Raiders (1-1)
The Raiders scored the last 13 points of the game to defeat Baltimore. They’ll need to get their running game going soon, because they’ve yet to record 100 rushing yards on the season after two games.
24. Washington Commanders (1-1)
Seven field goals and three touchdowns runs (two extra points) have accounted for all of Washington’s points this season. They are averaging 5.4 yards per rushing attempt, which ranks them sixth in the NFL.
25. Cincinnati Bengals (0-2)
The Bengals have lost two games by a total of seven points. They can’t seem to get out of their own way. Two games in, they could’ve had a victory with one defensive stop in the fourth quarter.
26. Indianapolis Colts (0-2)
As dynamic as Anthony Richardson has shown he can be, he’s got to cut down on the turnovers. He’s already racked up four interceptions this season.
27. Los Angeles Rams (0-2)
The Rams’ injury concerns have worsened after their second game. All-pro wide receiver Cooper Kupp will now miss an extended period of time with an ankle injury. Mathew Stafford has now lost his two best targets for the season.
28. Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2)
The Jaguars outscored the Browns 10-5 in the second half, but still fell short (again) on Sunday. Trevor Lawrence was sacked in the end zone to end the game versus Cleveland and he has already been sacked seven times this season.
29. Tennessee Titans (0-2)
Tennessee’s five turnovers have been their downfall and really fueled their winless start to the season. They’ve only forced one turnover on defense.
30. Denver Broncos (0-2)
I wonder who head coach Sean Payton blames for his team’s slow start. Russell Wilson is gone and he had a hand in the team drafting Bo Nix (zero touchdowns and four interceptions). A few more losses and the Broncos might start pointing the finger at him.
31. New York Giants (0-2)
The Giants scored three touchdowns and didn’t allow a touchdown on Sunday and still found a way to lose the game. They at least got their first round pick right, because Malik Nabers is an absolute stud at wide receiver.
32. Carolina Panthers (0-2)
After scoring just 13 points in two weeks, Dave Canales and his staff have seen enough. The Panthers will bench Bryce Young and go with Andy Dalton at least for week three. This really feels like the beginning of the end for Young, but it’s not officially over yet.
