Nashville, Tn – Another Sunday in the books as the Tennessee Titans fall to the Cincinnati Bengals at home 37-27. The team falls to 3-11 on the season with three games left.
Overview
This game had the makings of a shootout as both teams would trade score early on after the first series, and then disaster struck for Tennessee.
Will Levis would fumble on the first drive of the second quarter, the first of his four turnovers on the day, and the flood gates opened. Levis would be benched for backup quarterback Mason Rudolph in the third quarter.
The Titans turned the ball over on five of their next six drives.
The box score of this game is misleading. The Titans were under 200 total yards until the second half of the third quarter. The offense could not get out of their own way and beat themselves all day. Tennessee would lose the turnover battle 6-4 with four of those coming in the first half.
The defense possibly had their worst showing of the season. They gave up 370 total yards and allowed 10-13 conversions on third down.
The pass rush was almost non-existent, and when they did get to Burrow, they couldn’t finish the deal. Tennessee only had one sack on the day, a play in which rookie defensive lineman T’Vondre Sweat recovered a fumble and returned it 32 yards. Sweat got up to 15 mph on the play and had the longest fumble return from a player that is over 300 pounds.
Positives
Although they gave up 370 yards, the defense came up with four turnovers. The team never stopped competing even though it’s late in the season and there’s nothing to play for.
Negatives
The turnovers they gave up was indicative of how the game went. At one point, the team had three turnovers in seven minutes.
We could really nitpick if we wanted to but we’re going to be nice today. The entire game was negative.
What’s Next
Tennessee is on the road in Week 16 to play the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium.
