Two Halves Of One Apple – Why New York Is The Best Baseball City

If there has ever been a question on whether baseball is still America’s favorite pastime, it would have been asked within the last decade. Even with the fall off of fanfare and viewership for the MLB, one thing has never been in question: baseball’s greatest city is New York!

Yes, the Big Apple, the city that never sleeps and home to the two best teams of the 2022-23 season thus far.

The New York Mets and New York Yankees are at the top of the MLB and are now the first two teams to reach 20 wins in each league respectively.

This comes after both teams had down years in the 2021-22 season. The Mets were hit with devastating injuries up and down the roster that derailed what could’ve been a great season. The Yankees saw their best attribute be plagued by injury and inconsistent pitching derail their campaign. The two franchises have now bounced back and are giving dominant showings in this early juncture of the year.

As a way too early prediction, it looks like the World Series will be a New York centric affair. As good as they are both teams have gone down different paths to get to where they are.

The Yankees have stayed true to their “Bronx Bombers” monicker, whereas the Mets have been consistently one of the best pitching and fielding teams in baseball.

The Yankees are top 10 in home-runs, batting average, stolen bases, slugging and on base percentage.

The Mets are on the other end, being top 10 in earned run average, wins, strikeouts, walks and hits per innings pitched, opponent batting average and saves.

We haven’t seen a domination of two more different forces since the Sith and the Jedi!

As the season goes on these teams will have to clash at some point. That convergence will come in their first meeting on July 26th, 2022. We will see who is truly the better New York team but until then fans should enjoy the brand of baseball coming out the city.
