The Minnesota Vikings had one of the most disappointing seasons last year. After ending the regular season at 13-4, the Vikings lost on Wild Card weekend to the New York Giants. Now the Vikings seem to be ready for a refresh and will look to retool going into the 2023-24 season.
Bijan Robinson, HB, Texas
Parker Washington, WR, Penn State
Yasir Abdullah, Edge, Louisville
The Vikings need to replace the loss of long time receiver Adam Thielen and plan for the possible release of Dalvin Cook. Justin Jefferson is the future of this offense but they will need to get him some help if they plan to make a push towards a Super Bowl.
If they release Cook then the best player to grab on Day 1 would be Texas standout Bijan Robinson. Robinson is a similar back to Cook, but also has soft hands to be a threat in the passing game. His best attribute is his durability. He played 31 games with 28 starts in college. He played 97% of the possible 36 games possible: that is elite durability.
In the mid rounds the Vikings should look for options at receiver. Penn State product Parker Washington would be a great option to pair with Jefferson. He is threat after the catch and has soft, reliable hands. Replacing Thielen won’t be easy but this kid can definitely do it.
Next is to bolster the defense. Despite their record, Minnesota had a very pedestrian defense. They signed Marcus Davenport in the offseason but still need bodies on the front seven. Yasir Abdullah is a prime candidate for the Vikings in the later rounds. He has the athleticism and technique to be a situational pass rusher early and could work his way into being a solid starter in the future. Abdullah does need to add some weight but not starting will allow him to do so as the season goes along.
Minnesota has to make some moves in order to ensure that they continue their trend of success. Part of that is getting better and younger at some key positions. This is a good opportunity for them and if navigated correctly could yield a haul.
