NFL Power Rankings Week 5 – The Difference A Weekend Makes

Ab Stanley

It’s hard to imagine the action that we’re seeing in the NFL this year. It’s a very different league from the one we’ve been viewing over recent seasons. A lot of teams are struggling to score and defenses have taken back their reign as the dominant side of the football.

This is definitely not the NFL we have seen over the last several campaigns. What else can we expect from such an unpredictable set of teams?

1. Kansas City Chiefs (4-0)
Travis Kelce finally got involved in the Chiefs’ offense with seven catches for 89 yards on Sunday. He had eight catches for 69 yards in the team’s first three games.

2. Minnesota Vikings (4-0)
This isn’t a test of the emergency broadcast system or anything like that, but this is a real announcement I’m about to make. If the season ended today Sam Darnold (yes, that Sam Darnold) would be one of the finalists for league MVP, possibly the frontrunner.

3. Detroit Lions (3-1)
Jameson Williams is averaging 72.3 yards per game and 22.2 yards per reception. He’s quickly turning into one of the best deep threat players in the NFL.

4. Washington Commanders (3-1)
The 42 points scored on Sunday was Washington’s highest scoring game since the 2016 season. Washington has a total of four punts this season, which is the fewest in the NFL.

5. Buffalo Bills (3-1)
The Bills just learned they’ve lost Von Miller for four games for violating the league’s conduct policy. This news comes right after they gave up the most points in a game this season.

6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1)
Baker Mayfield is averaging 246.0 passing yards per game, with a total of 10 touchdowns and two turnovers this season.

7. Houston Texans (3-1)
The Texans are ranked fifth in total yards allowed, but they’ve given up a bunch of points. They are -15 in total point differential and they’re allowing an average of 23.5 points per game.

8. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1)
The first time the Steelers allowed 20 points or more this season, they lose the game. They allowed the Colts to score 27 points after allowing a total of 26 points in their first three games combined.

9. Seattle Seahawks (3-1)
Seattle gave up a total of 43 points in their first three games all against teams who currently don’t have a winning record. They gave up 42 points to Detroit on Monday night.

10. Baltimore Ravens (2-2)
The Ravens as a team have averaged 272.5 rushing yards per game in their last two games. They currently rank first in total rushing yards and yards per carry.

11. Philadelphia Eagles (2-2)
The Eagles are averaging 15.5 points in their last two games. They have a total of 10 touchdowns and eight turnovers on offense.

12. New Orleans Saints (2-2)
The Saints were averaging 45.5 points per game after their first two games of the season. They scored a total of 36 points in their last two games.

13. New York Jets (2-2)
There’s something weird going on between head coach Robert Saleh and Aaron Rodgers. The two don’t seem to be on the same page at all.

14. s Los Angeles Chargers (2-2)
The Chargers started the season with an identity of running the football. They’re on a two game losing streak, averaging 58.0 rushing yards per game during that stretch.

15. Dallas Cowboy (2-2)
The Cowboys rank 32nd in total rushing yards and have only scored two touchdowns on the ground. They’ve allowed an average of 145.7 rushing yards per game and have given up a total of eight rushing touchdowns.

16. San Francisco 49ers (2-2)
The 49ers are undefeated against AFC East opponents and winless against their other opponents. They average 31.0 points per game in their victories and 20.5 points per game in their losses.

17. Atlanta Falcons (2-2)
The trend for the Falcons is simple: score over 20 points and win the game. They’ve have a point differential of -10 so far this season.

18. Green Bay Packers (2-2)
Green Bay has allowed an average of 12.0 points per game in their two victories. They allowed an average of 32.5 points per game in their two defeats.

19. Las Vegas Raiders (2-2)
The Raiders have forced a total of two turnovers on defense so far this season. They’ve actually won both of the games that they’ve forced a turnover in.

20. Indianapolis Colts (2-2)
Starting quarterback Anthony Richardson has once again suffered an injury, but it doesn’t seem to be a season-ending one like last year. In eight career starts, Richardson has only finished four of those games unscathed.

21. Chicago Bears (2-2)
The Bears rank in the top ten in both total points allowed and total yards allowed. They’ve only allowed two passing touchdowns all season.

22. Denver Broncos (2-2)
The Broncos have allowed an average of 8.0 points per game in their last two contests, both resulting in victories. They are ranked in the top three in both total points and total yards allowed.

23. Cincinnati Bengals (1-3)
The Bengals average 25.5 points per game, but they only have one win to show for it. They’ve only been outscored by a total of two points this season.

24. Arizona Cardinals (1-3)
The Cardinals are averaging 13.5 points per game on their current two game losing streak. They currently rank 29th in total points scored.

25. Miami Dolphins (1-3)
The Dolphins have averaged 7.5 points per game since Tua Tagovailoa went down. They are currently at the bottom of the league in total points scored.

26. Cleveland Browns (1-3)
The Browns have scored a total of six touchdowns on offense. They average 16.5 points per game.

27. Los Angeles Rams (1-3)
The Rams rank 31st in total points allowed and total yards allowed. They’ve given up a total of 13 touchdowns on defense.

28. New England Patriots (1-3)
New England has scored 20 points and have gone over 300 yards from scrimmage only once this season. They have yet to gain 200 passing yards in any game they’ve played.

29. Tennessee Titans (1-3)
Starting quarterback Will Levis got hurt in the first half and the Titans sent Mason Rudolph in to take over the offense. Tennessee proceeded to score the most points than they have in any game this season.

30. New York Giants (1-3)
The Giants’ defense ranks in the top half of the league in total points allowed and total yards allowed. The problem is they average 15.0 points per game on offense and have turned the ball over in every game they’ve played.

31. Carolina Panthers (1-3)
Despite the loss, the Panthers have scored a total of 60 points in the past two weeks. They’ve also went down from four turnovers in the first two weeks to just one in the past two weeks.

32. Jacksonville Jaguars (0-4)
The Jaguars gave up the lead with 0:18 seconds left to go in the game. They’ve scored a total of three points in the fourth quarter this season.
