Maximum Value – Los Angeles Rams 2023 Draft Profile

The Los Angeles Rams are now two seasons removed from winning the Super Bowl and suffered from the “Super Bowl Hangover” in 2022-23. After mortgaging their future for a championship, the Rams will need to make the most of their picks to build onto their roster.

Byron Young, Edge, Alabama

DJ Turner, CB, Michigan

Henry Bainivalu, Guard, Washington

The Rams don’t have a first round pick this year, but they do have two third rounders and three fifth round picks.

The Rams looked like a shell of themselves this past season on both sides of the ball. Part of that was the lack of effectiveness and production in the trenches. One way the Rams could help themselves improve is to look to find a compliment to Aaron Donald. Alabama defender Byron Young has the talent to be a true partner in crime for Donald. Young has a pro ready body and can play on the edge or inside. He is strong at the point of attack and is rarely blocked by just one blocker. With him and Aaron Donald on the defensive front the Rams could see themselves become a dominant defense again.

L.A. traded away All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey this offseason as well, and could be looking to rebuild the defensive backfield. DJ Turner is an athletic freak with good physicality and coverage skills. He has the length to play in press man and the speed to recover if he is beat. He will have some growing pains at the next level but can develop into a solid starter.

In the late rounds the Rams should look to reinforce their offensive line. Last season Matthew Stafford was under pressure a lot and that needs to be addressed. In such a deep offensive line class the Rams could find a starter in later rounds. Henry Bainivalu is a solid prospect with good size and athleticism at the guard position. His stout build allows him to anchor against powerful interior rushers and has the hips to slide with quicker defenders. He excels in the screen game with good instincts when leading the charge. For an offensive line that needs help, finding a player of this caliber on day three would be a godsend.

The Rams mortgaged their future but they had some equity built up. They can still find good yields with their picks and set themselves up for a resurgence in 2023-24.
