- Bijan Robinson Is More Than Just A Typical Running Back - November 6, 2024
When the Atlanta Falcons drafted Bijan Robinson No. 8 overall in 2023, after rookie running back Tyler Allgeier ran for over a 1,000 yards, they knew they had something special. Now, the Falcons are seeing that he might be more than what they believed they had.
Robinson has been everything a team would want in a running back. He’s eighth in rushing yards and third in receiving yards in the NFL this season.
What’s been more eye-popping has been his improvement in blocking. Robinson has shown that he has and will sacrifice his body.
That was evident when he sacrificed his body and picked up the blitzing linebacker on the Darnell Mooney 36-yard touchdown.
Head coach, Raheem Morris, believes that Robinson embodies the standard that the Falcons look for in not only a running back but a football player.
“He does everything. I can’t say enough positive things about Bijan [Robinson],” stated Morris. “Running the football, blocking in protection, catching out the backfield, scoring touchdowns, cheering for his guys, being locked and loaded, being a positive leader, an inspiration behind everything we do, what he does in our community.
I mean he is the definition of what is a Falcon. And when we put that slide up, Terry [Fontenot] and I, when we’re talking about going to look for these people, our process of bringing them in here, you can just put a picture up of Bijan and say that is it from the highest level and then we can work from there.”
Typically, a running back of his caliber wants to be the focal point of the offense, and rightfully so, but Robinson, its all about the team producing as a whole.
“I think for us, when we’re doing everything right on the offense, I think we’re all going to get the stats that we want,” stated Robinson. “We’re all going to eat. I think as it’s looking right now, we’re all doing really well. [Darnell] Mooney, Drake [London], Kyle [Pitts], us as running backs, Ray Ray [McCloud III], we’re all being affective in the offense.
I think if we just keep on doing that, all our stats will be exactly where we want it. I know last year, the [San Francisco] 49ers had three 1,000 yard receivers, Christian [McCaffrey] at running back on what he did. When you all just haul the plan and do what you got to do got to do on Sunday, you all will just have the stats that you want.”
As talented as he is, he’s always up for criticism or information from teammates that can he can benefit from.
If he’s showing this humility and maturity at the age of 22 years old, then the sky is the limit for Robinson.
