Another Collapse Sees The Titans Fall To 1-6

Buffalo – Sunday saw the Tennessee Titans travel to Orchard Park to play the Buffalo Bills in a pivotal week eight matchup. They were coming off a loss at against the Indianapolis Colts and were trying to right the ship for a second win under head coach Brian Callahan.

Tennessee was without their starting cornerback L’Jarius Sneed and quarterback Will Levis. Veteran Mason Rudolph got the start, recording his first for the Titans this season.

Overview

The Titans had another day and night performance as they failed to lock in a win against Buffalo.

The offense looked like juggernaut in the first half, as Rudolph went 18-23 (78.2%) passing for 155 yards and a touchdown and getting the team to a 10-7 lead at halftime. Tony Pollard had yet another explosive performance, where he had 11 carries for 65 yards in the first half. He ended with 16 carries and 61 for the game.

The defense played lights out as they held Josh Allen to 3-10 (30%) passing for 65 yards and no touchdowns in the first half. The team was able to play well on the backend in Sneed’s absence and bottled up the Bills’ offense for the most part.

The second half was a totally different story as the team saw yet another collapse. The Titans gave up 27 points in the second half, 34 unanswered for the game.

The offense totaled just 15 yards of offense, which was a total 180 from their performance in the first half. The defense waned as the offense committed two turnovers in the half and allowed short fields to Buffalo.

Positives

There weren’t many positives in the game for Tennessee outside of the first half. Tony Pollard has continued to be a bright spot for the team and is the engine of the offense.

Mason Rudolph looked comfortable in the scheme and operated the offense efficiently.

The defense is still the best unit for the team. They held one of the best quarterbacks in the league to just 30% passing and under 100 yards in the first half. If the team can bottle up the first half and stretch it over an entire game, they will see the wins roll in.

Negatives

Yet another second half collapse put Tennessee behind the eight ball again.

The choice by Callahan to go for it on third and fourth down was questionable, and was the worst call thus far for the first time head coach.

The team had yet another high penalty game where they totaled eight for 52 yards.

It doesn’t get more disappointing than this kind of loss and they will need to correct a lot to get this thing going in the right direction.

The Titans will face their biggest challenge this season in week nine as they travel to Detroit, Michigan to face the Detroit Lions. Detroit has the 2nd overall offense and 19th ranked defense in the league.
