2025 Pittsburgh Steelers Draft Profile

Team Needs: CB, DL, QB, HB

There hasn’t been a more consistent team in the NFL over the last 15+ years than the Pittsburgh Steelers. There also hasn’t been a team with a more up and down quarterback situation over the last decade than them.

Pittsburgh is now at a crossroads as a team. They had a very active offseason and now have to make the decision on whether to wait another year for a signal caller or make take on in this year’s draft.

Possible Targets

Jaxson Dart – Quarterback, Ole Miss

Kalel Mullings – Halfback, Michigan

CJ West – Defensive Lineman, Indiana

Since Ben Roethlisberger retired the Steelers have been in quarterback purgatory. Though many consider this quarterback class weak, it has some diamonds that could shine in the right light. Pittsburgh is in a perfect spot to take on of them and come out with a steal in the late first round.

Jaxson Dart is one of the fastest risers in the draft but many scouts are at an impasse with his stock. Is he a top-10 pick or is he a day two player? I side with the former and the Steelers could look to get that talent late in the first round. Dart is an accurate passer with elite processing skills in the pocket. His mobility is the most underrated part of his game and makes him a slippery target when extending plays.

The best thing about him going to Pittsburgh is that he doesn’t have to start day one and can sit and develop for a year. Also, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith loves strong armed quarterbacks who can move which is a perfect fit for Dart’s skillset.

Najee Harris is now with the Los Angeles Chargers and Jaylen Warren hasn’t shown the durability to be a workhorse NFL back.

Pittsburgh will need to address the position one way or another and the draft is their best option.

Michigan halfback Kalel Mullings is a Steelers’ running back if you’ve ever seen one. Big, fast, and strong with a sense of leadership that can only be described as stoic. Mullings broke out in 2024 at Michigan to the tune of 948 yards and 12 touchdowns as the bell cow back. He can take a beating and keep on ticking which is a hallmark of backs in this system. Putting him the backfield as the lead-off man could help keep Warren fresh and give the Steelers a more dynamic option on all three downs.

Pittsburgh has become notorious for keeping players around past their primes. Those those players are legends in their own right, but the team needs to get younger to be able to keep up with the rest of the league. Cam Heyward is one of the greatest to ever do it, but he may not have many years left in the NFL. Getting his replacement will be important in this draft.

Enter CJ West from Indiana. The former Hoosier has been the model of consistency in his college career totaling more than five tackles for loss and two sacks over the last four seasons. He is built like a tank at 6’2″ and 330lbs but moves like a man half his size. His ability to plug the run while also threatening the pocket as a pass rusher is rare for interior defenders. Plugging him in as a rotational player early could be good for him until he can completely takeover as a full-time starter.

Mike Tomlin will have to ace the draft to get this team over the hump. They need to find their future and cultivate them in order to insure they can continue their rash of success on into the next decade.
