2025 Denver Broncos Draft Profile

Team Needs: TE, WR, DL, HB

The biggest example of an NFL overachiever is the 2024 Denver Broncos. After drafting quarterback Bo Nix, they went on to make the playoffs as a massive underdog. They now have the difficult job of taking that momentum and capitalizing on it.

Denver was active in the offseason, upgrading their roster in certain areas while not breaking the bank. They will now need to get those coveted rookie impact players to fill in the rest via the NFL draft.

Possible Targets

Colston Loveland – Tight End, Michigan

Damien Martinez – Halfback, Miami

Tez Johnson – Wide Receiver, Oregon

The one thing the Broncos did was insulate Nix with weapons in his first season in the league. They lost a lot of those players to free agency while also getting some stop gaps to replace them. The draft class has some hidden talents on the offensive side of the ball and if anyone can find them, it’s Sean Payton.

Denver signed Evan Engram in the offseason but he won’t be the long-term answer to the tight end position. They should look to get a younger talent and Colston Loveland would be perfect.

Payton loves big athletic pass catchers who can move. Loveland fits that archetype and has the upside to become one of the best in the league early in his career. Getting Nix an extra safety blanket would not only raise the ceiling of the offense, it would allow Denver to field more weapons than an opposing defense can defend.

The best thing for a young quarterback outside of a good tight end is a solid running game. There isn’t a player who can uphold that responsibility on the roster right now, so Denver should look to this deep halfback class to fill that void.

The power run game has seen a resurgence in the league. Denver should look to draft a back that can embody that style, and Damien Martinez is that back.

Martinez is a hefty 230-plus pounds with the wiggle and vision to play in any scheme. He is one of those “get stronger as the game goes on” backs and would give the Broncos a workhorse for later in the season. Martinez would serve as the starter for the Broncos and give them a true feature back in a system that thrives with one.

The icing on the cake for this team would be getting a familiar target for Nix. They tried to do that same thing last season with drafting Troy Franklin but this season could yield the best option.

Not only is Tez Johnson one of the best receivers in the class pound-for-pound but he is also Nix’s adopted brother. The two have a very close knit relationship which showed in their last year together when Johnson totaled 1,182 yards and 10 touchdowns, his best season in college.

The great thing about Johnson is that he would walk in to Denver’s locker room as arguably their third best receiver on day one. Getting that kind of talent in the late to mid rounds is a steal for a team that already has the talent.

The 2025 NFL Draft will allow the Broncos to reload their young team with top end offensive talent and continue their ascent. They have become one of the premier young teams and could thrust themselves into the contenders category with a strong draft class.
