Chicago – The Tennessee Titans kicked off their season in the Windy City to face the Chicago Bears.
The Titans entered this game after going undefeated in the preseason and looked to ride that momentum into the their first win of the season.
Overview
The Titans looked like a team with no weaknesses in the first half of the game. Outside of their first two drives, they were virtually unstoppable. They opened up an early 17-point lead that was highlighted by a 26-yard Tony Pollard run and a 17-yard touchdown pass by Will Levis to Chig Okonkwo.
Tennessee would see their dominance fade in the second half as they melted down, allowing 24 unanswered points and relinquishing the lead.
Tennessee’s offense could not generate enough on offense to stave off the Bears’ defensive front. They didn’t have a receiver go over 50 yards in the game and only completed one pass over 20 yards downfield.
The defense was as advertised though as they held the Chicago offense in check all game. Tennessee only gave up 148 total yards with no offensive touchdowns given up.
Positives
Tennessee played like a top five defense in Chicago. They held the Bears under 148 total yards, only allowing 93 yards through the air and 84 yards on the ground. They also allowed the Bears to convert just 15.3% (2-13) of their third downs.
The Titans scored when they were in striking distance converting on 50% (1-2) of their red zone attempts and their only goal-to-go opportunities.
They also ran the ball well, picking up 5.4 yards per carry and a total of 140 yards on the ground.
Negatives
The offense could not generate any yards in the second half of the game. The offensive line seemed to struggle as the game went on as the Bears brought pressure. The Titans gave up three sacks in the game.
Tennessee did not play a very efficient game. They could not convert on third down to sustain drives or capitalize on big play opportunities. The Titans only converted on 21.4% (3-14) of their third downs.
Will Levis could not find a rhythm in the game and had three turnovers that spelled doom for the Titans.
Tennessee also has some procedural issues that lead to eight penalties totaling 50 yards.
The Titans will return home next week to face the New York Jets at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.
