Please Excuse The Mess – NFL Power Rankings Week 6

Ab Stanley

Recent events have led me to believe that we’re living in a parallel universe. Up is down, right is left, dogs and cats are living in harmony. The teams at the top of the league have some unfamiliar faces while the teams we’re used to seeing there have flip flopped to the bottom of the league.

The reality of the NFL is there’s a serious amount of parity and one injury or two can recalibrate the standings back to years past.

1. Detroit Lions (4-1)
The Lions continue to score in bunches, but their defense has been equally up to the challenge. They’ve forced six turnovers in their last two games.

2. Philadelphia Eagles (4-1)
The Eagles will probably use this loss to regroup and get their season firmly in order. It doesn’t hurt that they play the New York Giants next.

3. Buffalo Bills (4-1)
Buffalo failed to score at least 30 points for the first time this season. Not a surprise they lost for the first time as well.

4. Indianapolis Colts (4-1)
The Colts’ defense has forced a turnover in every game they’ve played. They rank third in total points allowed.

5. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-1)
Trevor Lawrence made a statement with his “stumble” touchdown win on Monday night. The Jaguars are playing good on both sides of the ball and the Travis Hunter experiment is working so far.

6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-1)
Rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka is averaging 89.0 receiving yards a game with five touchdowns through the air. He leads the  Buccaneers in both categories.

7. San Francisco 49ers (4-1)
The 49ers went back to Mac Jones and they went right back into the win column. Jones seems to be more comfortable with the skills position players the 49ers have out there due to injury.

8. s Los Angeles Chargers (3-2)
The Chargers have lost two games in a row, averaging 14.0 points per game. They’ll play Miami’s porous defense next, so they should get back to their scoring ways.

9. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1)
The Steelers are quietly moving along this season and  nobody is talking about it. I didn’t really come here to talk extensively about them either, but it’s weird.

10. Los Angeles Rams (3-2)
The Rams are not what their record says they are. I believe they should be 5-0 because they’ve lost two games they had no business losing.

11. Seattle Seahawks (3-2)
The Seahawks have turned the ball over in every game they’ve played this season. The 38 points they allowed to Tampa Bay were more than they allowed on their previous two games combined.

12. Washington Commanders (3-2)
Washington got back to their winning ways with a total domination of the Los Angeles Chargers. They’ll play two of their next three games on the road.

13. Green Bay Packers (2-1-1)
The Packers come off of their bye week to take on the Cincinnati Bengals at home and then they’ll travel to Arizona to take on the Cardinals.

14. Minnesota Vikings (3-2)
The Vikings rank fifth in total points allowed and sixth in total yards allowed. Their biggest problem is turning the ball over.

15. Denver Broncos (3-2)
The Broncos have won two in a row, scoring a total of 49 points. They’ve allowed a total of 20 points during the streak.

16. New England Patriots (3-2)
The Patriots had the ultimate game plan for Buffalo. They just unleashed Stefon Diggs and his vengeful thoughts against Buffalo.

17. Cincinnati Bengals (2-3)
The Bengals have lost three in a row, but their fans shouldn’t be worried. Joe Flacco is on the way to save the day!

18. Arizona Cardinals (2-3)
The Cardinals are ranked fourth in total points allowed. Other than that, they don’t do anything really well.

19. Kansas City Chiefs (2-3)
This version of the Chiefs is not the upgraded Super Bowl winning Chiefs we’ve seen in years past. This will be a tough season to navigate through.

20. Chicago Bears (2-2)
The Bears will face the Washington Commanders coming off of their bye week and then they will host New Orleans.

21. Atlanta Falcons (2-2)
The Falcons come off of their bye week to face the Bills at home and then they travel to San Francisco.

22. Dallas Cowboys (2-2-1)
Jerry Jones was fined by the NFL for making an inappropriate gesture to the fans at MetLife Stadium. His team got the win, but of course he had to steal the headlines.

23. Houston Texans (2-3)
The Texans have won two games in a row heading into their bye week. They’ve allowed an average of 5.0 points a game in those two victories.

24. Carolina Panthers (2-3)
Carolina has scored a total of 57 points in their two victories. They’ve scored a total of 45 points in their three losses.

25. Baltimore Ravens (1-4)
Baltimore has lost three in a row, scoring a total of 60 points during that stretch. They’ve allowed a total of 119 points in those three games.

26. Las Vegas Raiders (1-4)
The Raiders lost a game where they only scored single digits for the second time this season. They rank 30th in total points scored.

27. Cleveland Browns (1-4)
Dillon Gabriel had a good debut game and Quinshon Judkins continues to be a workhorse running back. Cleveland might have something to look forward to on offense.

28. Tennessee Titans (1-4)
Tennessee scored 16 unanswered points to squeak past Arizona. They struggle on both sides of the ball, but the win should be refreshing to the fans.

29. New Orleans Saints (1-4)
The Saints won their first game of the season with the defense allowing their lowest point total of the season.

30. New York Giants (1-4)
Without Malik Nabers, the Giants skill position players are either inexperienced or just not talented enough.

31. Miami Dolphins (1-4)
The rumor is Mike McDaniel has two or three games to turn this slump around. Early indications are he stands no chance of surviving this season.

32. New York Jets (0-5)
The Jets bye week is week nine and head coach Aaron Glenn might not make it that far in his current role.
