NFL Power Rankings Week 4 – Tales From The Football Unknown

Ab Stanley

The amount of wild games we’ve seen after three weeks of play in the NFL has been surprising. Almost every imaginable outcome has been realized. Some of the supposed better teams have looked pedestrian, while the would be worst teams in the league have managed to put together some wins.

We may not have entered the twilight zone, but there are a weird set of occurrences unfolding before our eyes. It’s only week four for crying out loud.

1. Buffalo Bills (3-0)
The Bills are downright spectacular right now. They’ve scored 30 or more points in every game they’ve played and they haven’t allowed any of their opponents to crack the 30 point mark.

2. Kansas City Chiefs (3-0)
I’m not a conspiracy theorist or or anything like that, but it’s hard to understand how every one of the Chiefs’ games have come down to a controversial call (or no call) from the officials. Also, Travis Kelce has been almost nonexistent in this Chiefs’ offense this season.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-0)
Despite recording his first turnover of the season, Justin Fields had his best game of the season. He’s becoming more and more comfortable in the Steelers’ offense.

4. Minnesota Vikings (3-0)
Minnesota is averaging 28.3 points per game and they’re allowing 10.0 points per game. They rank top three in both total points per game and total points allowed.

5. New York Jets (2-1)
The Jets gave up 32 points in their week one loss against San Francisco. They’ve given up a total of 20 points in their two wins since then.

6. Houston Texans (2-1)
The Texans have consistently scored less points than the previous week as the season progresses. They’ve also struggled to run the football, averaging 56.5 yards on the ground in their last two games.

7. Seattle Seahawks (3-0)
Seattle finally won a game that didn’t come down to one score. The current NFC West leaders have a big test coming up against Detroit and that should really give them an indication of what kind of season they’re having so far.

8. Philadelphia Eagles (2-1)
The Eagles have outscored their opponents by a total of seven points. Every game they’ve played has come down to one score.

9. New Orleans Saints (2-1)
The Saints were averaging 45.5 points per game after the first two weeks. They followed that up with a robust 12 point performance versus the Philadelphia. They’ll have to do much better in their divisional matchup against Atlanta this weekend.

10. Detroit Lions (2-1)
The Lions are ranked fourth in total yards from scrimmage, but they aren’t scoring a bunch. They have seven total touchdowns on offense and they’re averaging 20.6 points per game.

11. s Los Angeles Chargers (2-1)
The Chargers are dealing with injuries to quarterback Justin Herbert, edge rusher Joey Bosa and rookie offensive lineman Joe Alt. This doesn’t bode well for their upcoming matchup versus Kansas City.

12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1)
Tampa Bay had their two game winning streak snapped and they are struggling to run the football. They have failed to eclipse the 100 yard mark on the ground since their week one matchup and they rank 27th in rushing overall.

13. Green Bay Packers (2-1)
The Packers have forced exactly three turnovers in every one of the games they’ve played. The nine forced turnovers ranks them first in the NFL. They have only given the ball away twice on offense.

14. Washington Commanders (2-1)
Jayden Daniels leads all rookie quarterbacks with 664 passing yards and 8.7 yards per pass attempt. This is the second year in a row that we’re talking about the number two quarterback taken as the best of the rookie class.

15. Dallas Cowboys (1-2)
The Cowboys haven’t looked anything like the Super Bowl contender that their fans claim they are every season for the last 30 or so years.

16. San Francisco 49ers (1-2)
San Francisco has given up an average of 25.0 points per game on their current two game losing streak. They allowed an average of 17.5 points per game last season.

17. Arizona Cardinals (1-2)
The Cardinals looked good in a week one loss, great in a week two victory and terrible in last week’s defeat. They’ve been able to score for the most part, but they haven’t been consistent at all, especially on defense.

18. Miami Dolphins (1-2)
The questions surrounding Miami’s quarterback situation are huge right now. Unfortunately the answer is not Skylar Thompson, or Tim Boyle for that matter. Maybe Tyler Huntley can provide some relief, but when exactly are they going to give him a start?

19. Cleveland Browns (1-2)
The Browns are currently averaging 16.6 points per game. They’ve failed to reach 20 points in any game this season.

20. Baltimore Ravens (1-2)
When the Ravens acquired Derrick Henry, everyone thought the plan would be run the football and then run it some more. After Henry’s 25 carry, 151 yard performance on Sunday, that might actually be the Baltimore plan going forward.

21. Atlanta Falcons (1-2)
Atlanta had all the momentum in the world starting from their last drive of week two up until their opening drive of week three. They’ve yet to put together a solid four quarters and  now they have some injury concerns on their offensive line.

22. Las Vegas Raiders (1-2)
The Raiders have scored six offensive touchdowns, while turning the ball over five times. They’ve been outscored 81-58 on the season.

23. Indianapolis Colts (1-2)
The Colts finally broke into the win column despite the myriad problems they continue to show. They rank 31st in total yards allowed and they have turned the ball over in every game they’ve played.

24. Los Angeles Rams (1-2)
The Rams snatched a victory from San Francisco after trailing by two touchdowns early. Kyren Williams powered the team, finishing the game with 116 yards from scrimmage and three total touchdowns.

25. Chicago Bears (1-2)
Chicago has no semblance of a rushing attack whatsoever. They average 72.6 rushing yards per game, 3.0 yards per carry and they’ve only recorded one touchdown on the ground.

26. New England Patriots (1-2)
The Patriots are ranked 31st in total points scored and 32nd in total yards gained. They are averaging 11.5 points per game on their current two game losing streak.

27. Cincinnati Bengals (0-3)
It’s hard to put a finger on what’s wrong with the Bengals this year. Every week they’ve increased their scoring total, but they’ve also given up more points as the weeks go by. Their turnover total is even with their opponents (three) and they really haven’t excelled in any one area.

28. Denver Broncos (1-2)
The Broncos have given up an average of 10.0 points per game over the past two weeks. They’ve averaged 16.0  points per game during that same stretch.

29. New York Giants (1-2)
The Giants scored all 21 of their points in the first half of their game on Sunday. Despite the offensive outburst, the Giants are only averaging 15.0 points per game this season.

30. Carolina Panthers (1-2)
Bryce Young’s days might be more numbered that previously thought. Andy Dalton had full command of the offense and was able to moved the ball against a decent Raiders team. At the very least, Dalton has proved the roster has some weapons, even if they aren’t in the upper echelon of talent.

31. Tennessee Titans (0-3)
Tennessee has shot themselves in the foot time and time again this season. Their eight turnovers lead the NFL and quarterback Will Levis is responsible for all of them (5 interceptions, 3 lost fumbles).

32. Jacksonville Jaguars (0-3)
People would look at the Jaguars and swear they have everything you want in a football team. It’s starting to seem like everything about them is vastly overrated.
