The wrong play call or better yet the right play call at the worst possible time can change the course of history pretty significantly. Winning a game in the NFL doesn’t always mean you’ve advanced as a team. Losing a game doesn’t mean nothing at all was gained.
So the score can tell you you’ve won the game, but seasons can be lost even during that victory lap.
1. Philadelphia Eagles (4-0)
The undefeated Eagles have turned the ball over only once on offense this season. They’ve scored 12 touchdowns.
2. Buffalo Bills (4-0)
Buffalo hasn’t scored less than 30 points in any game this season. They’re still somehow not in first place in total points scored.
3. Detroit Lions (3-1)
The Lions rank first in total points scored and sixth in total yards from scrimmage. They’re averaging 34.2 points per game.
4. Los Angeles Chargers (3-1)
The Chargers have turned the ball over multiple times in each of their past two games. They’ve only forced a turnover in one of their four games.
5. Indianapolis Colts (3-1)
The Colts lost their first game of the season and coincidentally they recorded their first set of turnovers this season in the same game.
6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1)
The Buccaneers can’t expect to come back from a deficit every week to win a game. It sure is fun to watch them try though.
7. San Francisco 49ers (3-1)
Trust me there’s no quarterback controversy at all going on in San Francisco. Not like they were rolling along nicely with Mac Jones and then all a sudden lost when they put Brock Purdy back into the lineup.
8. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1)
The Steelers have won two in a row heading into their bye week. Old man Aaron Rodgers could probably use the week off.
9. Los Angeles Rams (3-1)
The Rams have lost the only game they’ve given up more than 20 points. They rank 10th in total points allowed.
10. Green Bay Packers (2-1-1)
Micah Parsons and the Packers might be disappointed in just getting a tie in Dallas, but if his back injury is a reoccurring thing, that could derail the Packers’ season that started off so promising.
11. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-1)
The Jaguars have won two games in a row, allowing a total of 31 points. They rank fifth in total points allowed.
12. Seattle Seahawks (3-1)
Only one team has reached the 20 point mark against the Seahawks this season. They rank second in total points allowed.
13. Washington Commanders (2-2)
Last week I said the Commanders could tread water with Marcus Mariota playing quarterback. Last week, I was mistaken.
14. Minnesota Vikings (2-2)
Carson Wentz nearly bought Minnesota back in the fourth quarter against Pittsburgh. Right now he’s averaging 261.5 passing yards per game and competing 66.7% of his passes.
15. Denver Broncos (2-2)
Patrick Surtain II really shutdown JaMarr Chase on Monday Night. Next up, a potential showdown with AJ Brown.
16. Cincinnati Bengals (2-2)
The Bengals have given up a total of 76 points on their current two game losing streak. Next up, the Detroit Lions and their dynamic offense.
17. Arizona Cardinals (2-2)
They need to get Marvin Harrison Jr. way more involved. His second half performance against Seattle should warrant that.
18. Kansas City Chiefs (2-2)
If Xavier Worthy makes that much of a difference, then we all have been vastly underrating this young man. The Chiefs’ offense looked great for the first time in awhile.
19. Chicago Bears (2-2)
Caleb Williams has thrown eight touchdown passes and only two interceptions. He has nine total touchdowns from scrimmage this season.
20. Atlanta Falcons (2-2)
I think people are forgetting how young the Falcons are. With that type of team you’re going to experience some growing pains, but what you really want to see is consistency.
21. New England Patriots (2-2)
The Patriots have flipped flopped wins and loses in their first four games. They are currently ranked tenth in both total points scored and total points allowed.
22. Baltimore Ravens (1-3)
Sunday was the first time Baltimore scored less than 30 points in a game this season. It was the third time they’ve allowed 30 or points in a game this season.
23. Las Vegas Raider (1-3)
Their three game losing streak could be attributed to the seven total turnovers they’ve committed. The 86 points allowed in those three games combined might be a more legitimate answer.
24. Cleveland Browns (1-3)
The Browns are benching Joe Flacco and starting rookie Dillon Gabriel at quarterback. Somehow Shadeur Sanders will remain the number three quarterback, which makes you wonder why they drafted him in the first place.
25. Dallas Cowboys (1-2-1)
You knew Jerry Jones wanted anything else than to lose this particular game to the Green Bay Packers. He probably went in the locker room at half time and said, “Just make sure y’all don’t lose the game! ”
26. Houston Texans (1-3)
The Texans first win comes in the form of a shutout against Tennessee. Now they travel to Baltimore to play a Ravens team that hasn’t been that terrific themselves.
27. New York Giants (1-3)
Jaxson Dart didn’t have spectacular numbers, but he got a victory and that’s what counts most. The numbers should eventually show up on his stat sheet.
28. Miami Dolphins (1-3)
The Dolphins got what looked like the best version of Darren Waller they could get. If he could provide a big red zone target, then the offense might find their way back to the 2023 type of production.
29. Carolina Panthers (1-3)
Carolina sure came crashing down to earth after their first win of the season. They allowed more points to the Patriots than they did in the first three games combined.
30. New York Jets (0-4)
The Jets are not losing games, they’re just simply handing them over to the other team. They gift wrap them and everything.
31. Tennessee Titans (0-4)
Tennessee is ranked dead last in points scored and 31st in total yards from scrimmage. The defensive side of the ball isn’t ranked much higher in those categories.
32. New Orleans Saints (0-4)
After some pretty strong effort in the first two weeks, the Saints’ defense has given up a combined 75 points in their last two.
