Dallas Mavericks have traded for New York Knicks Forward Kristaps Porzingis per Marc Stein. Mavericks will send Dennis Smith Jr., Wesley Matthews, DeAndre Jordan and two future first round draft picks to the Knicks. Knicks will send Kristaps Porzingis, Courtney Lee, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Trey Burke.
For the Knicks they are planning to go after a high profile free agent this summer and have been linked to Kevin Durant. By including the contracts of Hardaway and Lee they will clear approximately $74.6M in cap space to make that a possibility.
Earlier today the New York Knicks had a meeting with Porzingis where he voiced his frustration with losing and the overall direction of the franchise per New York Post.
For the Mavericks, Porzingis has already informed the team that he will sign his qualifying offer this summer since he will be a restricted free agent. Dallas will look to build around him and rising star Luka Doncic.
Before his injury (knee), Kristaps Porzingis averaged 17.8 points, seven rebounds and 1.3 assists. Dennis Smith Jr. has been a breakout star during his time with Dallas averaging 14.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.9 assists for his career.
