1) Clemson Tigers (12-1) defeated Miami Hurricanes 38-3
Clemson demolished Miami in the ACC title game. The defense was outstanding, giving up just 214 total yards. They held the Hurricanes to 3-16 on third down and forced three turnovers. They did not put up gaudy offensive numbers, gaining only 331 total yards, but they were very efficient getting into the end zone. Quarterback Kelly Bryant was very good, going 23-29 for 252 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud had 6 catches for 100 yards. The running game was quiet with 77 yards. 2) Oklahoma Sooners (12-1) defeated TCU Horned Frogs 41-17
Oklahoma took care of TCU with a dominating second half. The defense gave up 317 total yards and held the Horned Frogs to 0-1 on fourth down, with two forced turnovers. The offense gained 461 total yards. Quarterback Baker Mayfield capped off a Heisman caliber season going 15-23 for 243 yards and four touchdowns. Running back Rodney Anderson had 93 rushing yards. Wide receiver Marquise Brown had three catches for 87 yards and a touchdown. Next game: BCS semifinal Rose Bowl vs Georgia Bulldogs
3) Georgia Bulldogs (12-1) defeated Auburn Tigers 28-7
Georgia exacted some revenge by dismantling Auburn. The defense was outstanding, giving up 259 total yards. They held the Tigers to 4-13 on third down, 0-1 on fourth down, and forced two turnovers. The offense gained 421 total yards. Freshman quarterback Jake Fromm was solid, going 16-22 for 183 yards with two touchdowns. The rushing attack pounded out 238 rushing yards. 4) Alabama Crimson Tide (11-1) Regular season over
Alabama benefited the most from Wisconsin losing to Ohio State. It was the right choice by the committee. The Crimson Tide are one of the best four teams in the country. Next game: BCS semifinal Sugar Bowl vs Clemson Tigers
5) Ohio State Buckeyes (11-2) defeated Wisconsin Badgers 27-21
Ohio State squeaked by Wisconsin in the Big Ten title game. The defense was solid, giving up 298 total yards. More importantly, they held Wisconsin phenom running back Jonathan Taylor to just 41 rushing yards. They held the Badgers to 5-16 on third down, 0-1 on fourth down, and forced two turnovers. The offense gained 449 total yards. Quarterback JT Barrett wasn’t great, going 12-26 for 211 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Running back J.K. Dobbins was excellent, rushing for 174 yards. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin had two catches for 92 yards and a touchdown. It was just not enough to overcome two lopsided losses. 6) Wisconsin Badgers (12-1) lost to Ohio State Buckeyes 27-21
Wisconsin suffered a tough loss to Ohio State in the Big Ten title game. The defense picked a bad time to have it’s worst game, giving up 449 total yards. They did force three turnovers to keep them in the game. The offense gained 298 total yards. They just could not generate any big plays. Quarterback Alex Hornibrook struggled, going 19-40 for 229 yards with two interceptions. When needed most, he could not come through. Running back Jonathan Taylor was held in check, gaining a season low 41 rushing yards. Next game: Orange Bowl vs Miami Hurricanes
7) USC Trojans (11-2) defeated Stanford Cardinal 31-28
USC finished out a strong season with a close victory over Stanford in the PAC 12 title game. The defense bent but did not break, giving up 343 total yards. The offense gained 501 total yards. Quarterback Sam Darnold was great, going 17-24 for 325 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Ronald Jones rushed for 140 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. had seven catches for 146 yards and a touchdown. Next game: Cotton Bowl vs Ohio State Buckeyes
8) UCF Golden Knights (12-0) defeated Memphis Tigers 62-55 2OT
UCF capped off an undefeated regular season in a shootout with Memphis in the ACC title game. The defense had their hands full with the second highest scoring team in the country, giving up 753 total yards, but made the play to win it in double overtime. The offense was on fire, gaining 726 total yards. Quarterback McKenzie Milton was tremendous, going 28-40 for 494 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions. Running back Otis Anderson had 113 rushing yards and a touchdown. Wide receivers Tre’Quan Smith (161 yards, two touchdowns) and Dredrick Snelson (145 yards,two touchdowns) had huge games. 9) Penn State Nittany Lions (10-2) Regular season over
They have a chance to end their season on a high note. Next game: Fiesta Bowl vs Washington Huskies
10) Miami Hurricanes (10-2) lost to Clemson Tigers
Miami was an absolute no show and suffered an embarrassing loss in the ACC title game. The defense was OK, giving up 331 total yards. The offense was terrible, gaining only 214 total yards. Quarterback Malik Rosier had a bad game, going 14-29 for 110 yards and two interceptions. They only rushed for 104 yards. This was an abysmal performance. It seemed like the lights were too bright for this young Hurricane team. They have a chance to right this wrong in their bowl game. Next game: Orange Bowl vs Wisconsin Badgers
