The Charlotte Hornets have signed their first-round draft pick, LaMelo Ball to his rookie contract on Monday night. Ball, who was drafted third overall, played last season for the Illawarra Hawks of the National Basketball League.
Ball is expected to push Terry Rozier III and Devante Graham for playing time in the backcourt. He averaged 17.0 points, 7.6 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game in his 12 games for the Hawks last season.
The Hornets will open training camp on Tuesday in Charlotte and he will potentially make his NBA debut against the Toronto Raptors on December 12th.
The signing was reported by his agent, Raymond Brothers of Roc Nation.
