2025 Houston Texans Draft Profile

Team Needs: IOL, Tackle, WR, DL

There wasn’t a team in America that had more expectations than the Houston Texans heading into the 2024 season. They loaded up and made a run at the playoffs, falling short in the divisional round.

Injuries derailed a promising season and now the team is looking forward to 2025. Nick Caserio has shown a mastery of the draft board, and he will need it to navigate this year’s class. Houston will look to re-up with young talent and have a breakthrough season this year.

Possible Targets

Grey Zabel – Guard, North Dakota State

Antwane Wells Jr. – Wide Receiver, Ole Miss

Eric Gregory – Defensive Line, Arkansas

After cleaning house on the offensive line, the Texans will need to retool their front. Despite filling those holes with veteran free agents, the team still has needs behind them. The draft has a ton of talent that Houston can draft and stash for the future.

The North Dakota State Bison have been a factory for NFL-ready offensive linemen. Grey Zabel is one of them and he has all the tools to be an All-Pro at the next level. Zabel has played both guard and tackle, excelling at both. He is uber consistent, rarely losing his leverage when getting into his set. The Texans have a need for depth and Zabel can provide that while also developing into a starter for 2026.

Houston has a good group of young receivers and also added veteran Christian Kirk via trade. They still find themselves needing talent at the position since Tank Dell will not be available for the 2025 season. They can find a steady contributor on day two.

Antwane Wells Jr. may be the most polished receiver outside of the day one receivers. Wells Jr. is a short to intermediate route master with sticky hands and deceptive speed. He has shown the willingness to block downfield and go across the middle despite not being the biggest player. With Nico Collins being the deep ball guy, Wells Jr. can come in and man compete for the WR3 spot in the offense. He will be a sure-handed security blanket for CJ Stroud and could end up being one of Houston’s best players early on.

Depth and development should be the theme for the Texans in the late rounds of the draft. One area they could use it is on the defensive line. Their edges are set but the interior is in need of serious depth and young quality contributors.

Eric Gregory is one of the gems that will be available on day three. Gregory is a natural mover with good functional strength to reset the line of scrimmage. He has upside as an interior pass rusher which could get him on the field quickly in the early goings of his career. Gregory has the athletic profile to play at every spot on the defensive line which would make him a perfect player for Demeco Ryans’ defensive scheme.

The Texans brass aced the draft a year ago and this draft class shouldn’t be any different. There are too many good players, and Houston can come out with a few of them this year.
