It was senior day for Georgia Tech with their friends and family watching from the stands as some of these players participated in their final home game.
Starting pitcher Connor Thomas started the day off shakey in the first loading the bases then giving up a three-run double to Robbie Coman the designated hitter for Virginia Cavaliers after seeing eye single and a regular single which put Virginia 3-0
Georgia Tech would quickly cut the lead when second baseman Wade Bailey homered from his leadoff spot in the bottom of the half.
In the top half of the fourth, Virginia started flexing its muscle. After the Jackets went to the bullpen to summon relief pitcher Ben Sniederjans. They couldn’t have foreseen the outcome after the teams traded runs to make the score 4-3.. The right handed pitcher started out with two quick outs, then a seeing eye single to Andy Weber. Then another single, an error and a two-run single by Jake McCarthy made it 6-3.
An RBI single by Adam Hasely and yet yet another couple of RBI courtesy of Pavin Smith’s two run shot gave the Cavaliers a 9-3 lead.
Georgia Tech would not go down without a fight scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Bailey again came through with an RBI single and the senior Poje would rack up three more RBI with a three-run homer and to tie the game 9-9. Poje finished with five RBI off of two hits in his final game on senior night. The comeback was all for naught as Cavaliers DH Robbie Coleman drove in the winning run on a fly out to center in the top of the ninth. Pavin Smith finished with five RBI off three hits to power the Cavaliers to the victory.
