If you take a quiz right now on who the very best teams are in the NFL, you’ll probably fail. More than anything, we’re just trying to find some consistency in what teams are doing, but the teams don’t want to oblige.
Its getting too close to mid-season for us to be so blind in the dark about who’s who and what’s what.
1.)
San Francisco 49ers (6-0)
There’s probably no debate on who the top team in the NFL is at this point. Their key will be staying healthy, because the injury bug usually hits them like a swarm of bees.
2.)
Kansas City Chiefs (5-0)
Imagine the whole Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift thing or Patrick Mahomes not being the main attraction at Arrowhead Stadium. No, its Kenneth Walker III (literally) running all over the Chiefs’ opponents to the tune of 665 rushing yards in six games.
3.)
Buffalo Bills (5-1)
Josh Allen really goes out there week-to-week and plays with a carefree attitude, flinging the ball from left to right like its nothing. It doesn’t look like its hard for him to play NFL football most weeks.
4.)
Minnesota Vikings (5-0)
The Vikings aren’t scoring many touchdowns these days with only eight on offense. The fact that they are giving up even less touchdowns (five) on defense has them sitting pretty coming off of their bye week.
5.)
Chicago Bears (4-2)
The Bears have 13 rushing touchdowns this season. There’s nothing wrong with that, but we’re always talking about their high flying offense and they’re ranked 2nd in rushing.
6.)
New England Patriots (4-2)
Drake Maye is hotter than a jalapeno dipped in hot sauce right now. He has 10 touchdowns and only one interception in his last three games, fueling the Patriots’ win streak.
7.)
Denver Broncos (4-2)
Sean Payton really hasn’t proven he’s a better play-caller than offensive coach Davis Webb, and these recent scores haven’t shown that either. Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph has shown he’s an excellent play caller on defense.
8.
Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2)
Travis Hunter and the Jaguars seemed to have found a way to pull off this both sides of the ball thing. Hunter had a touchdown reception and an interception in the game against the Houston Texans, putting him on the short list of players that have done both in the same game.
9.)
Green Bay Packers (4-2)
The Packers have been hot as of late, pushing their win streak to three games and holding other teams to under 20 points. Green Bay is undefeated when their opponents fail to score 20 points.
10.)
Baltimore Ravens (4-2)
Since the NBA is starting this week, let me make a quick comparison. Lamar Jackson is the Giannis Antetokounmpo of the NFL. When he’s actually playing, he’s arguably the best player in his sport, but he’s deceptively hurt all the time.
11.
Cleveland Browns (4-2)
If I’m in Cleveland, I’m not even questioning what’s happening here this season. I mean seriously, good quarterback play, fourth quarter comebacks, contending for a division title? This can’t be the Cleveland Browns, can it?
12.)
Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2)
Has Jalen Ramsey turned back the hands of time or turned into a different player all together. He had ten total tackles, four tackles for loss and two sacks in the Steelers victory over Tampa Bay.
13.)
Detroit Lions (3-2)
Detroit comes off of their bye week suddenly looking up at every other team in their division. Dan Campbell and company can make up ground with two divisional games at home right out of the gate.
14.)
Cincinnati Bengals (3-2)
The Bengals will come off of their bye week and head to Baltimore for a division showdown with the Ravens. Then they have a home game against the Tennessee Titans before they head to Madrid to face the Atlanta Falcons.
15.)
Carolina Panthers (3-2)
Carolina is ranked second in total points scored and fourth in total yards from scrimmage. Bryce Young leads the NFL averaging 309.8 passing yards per game.
16.)
Seattle Seahawks (3-3)
What will the feelings be around Seattle when Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III returns there this weekend? It could be a little salty seeing as how they’re 18th in rushing defense and he’s doing what he’s doing in Kansas City.
17.)
Houston Texans (2-4)
I know I have the Texans kind of high here, (especially how suspect their defense has been), but you can really see the turnaround coming.
18.)
New York Giants (3-2-1)
The Giants somehow find themselves in a quarterback controversy with a guy who had a bad game and a guy who played 24 snaps. All of this is happening while their regular starter is out for the season. Oh the drama!
19.
Las Vegas Raiders (3-3)
Ashton Jeanty hasn’t shown the dynamic type of play that a top ten pick should’ve have shown at this point in his career. Have the Raiders failed him or has he failed the Raiders?
20.)
New Orleans Saints (2-4)
I think the Saints’ record doesn’t really show how good they are or could be. Tyler Shough really has the feel of a big time quarterback. If they could somehow pull it all together for more than one game.
21.)
Philadelphia Eagles (2-4)
The NFL has announced it will not issue any punishment regarding their handling of Jalen Hurts blood clots situation. The team itself has been reeling, having lost four in a row and now losing their quarterback for the season.
22.)
Atlanta Falcons (2-4)
The Falcons have signed Andy Dalton and cut Cooper Rush. Was Dalton bought in to battle Tua Tagovailoa for the back up quarterback job? I’m sure the Falcons are hoping it doesn’t come to that.
23.)
Dallas Cowboys (2-4)
Dallas has done everything under the sun to improve their defense and nothing has really worked. Sure, in certain instances, they look like they could be turning a corner, but for the most part it, has been pedestrian at best.
24.)
Los Angeles Rams (2-4)
Right now, the Rams aren’t good and they haven’t been good finishing these games off. Their next four games aren’t necessarily a gauntlet of the best teams so could we be talking about a different team by week 10 or 11?
25.)
Arizona Cardinals (2-4)
The Cardinals are undefeated when they play a team in Los Angeles. Sadly there’s no immediate plans to move all of their games there for a better home field advantage.
26.)
New York Jets (2-4)
The two teams the Jets have beaten have a combined 5-7 record. Their next two opponents are combined 3-8, so maybe they can do some damage in the next couple of games.
27.
Indianapolis Colts (2-4)
The Colts can’t be serious letting the Tennessee Titans come back against them. There should be some type of NFL fine for that type of second half performance.
28.)
Tennessee Titans (1-5)
The Titans played a great game in Robert Saleh’s first win with the franchise. Now, can they build off of that win against the Browns this weekend?
29.)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-5)
Baker Mayfield will practice on Wednesday to see if he can grip a football with his dislocated right thumb. If he can, he will start against the Panthers on Sunday.
30.)
The Washington Commanders (1-4-1)
With a torn patellar tendon injury, finishing off his season, Terry McLaurin will have only played 15 games total in the past two season.
31.
Los Angeles Chargers (0-6)
So the word out of Los Angeles is if Mike McDaniel gets fired as offensive coordinator, pass coordinator Adam Gase could take over that role. That seems a bit drastic seeing as how the Chargers have one of the worst passing attacks in the NFL.
32.)
Miami Dolphins (0-5)
To call the Dolphins the most inexperienced team in the NFL is not far fetched. The average age of the roster is 25.3 years old, making them the youngest team in the league.
