Titans Lose Late to Eagles 24-20 in Week 2 Heartbreaker

Nissan Stadium — The Tennessee Titans lost a heartbreaker to the Philadelphia Eagles, 24-20, at home.

 

Overview

Tennessee came out looking like it was going to be another flat day on offense, going three-and-out on its first drive. Philadelphia took advantage, going on a 15-play, 69-yard drive that ended with an Amani Hooker interception that he returned 92 yards.

The Titans would score on the subsequent drive on a one-yard Cam Ward sneak to go up 7-0.

Hurts led the Eagles to 14 unanswered points as Philadelphia controlled the ball for most of the first half. Tennessee could not generate any pressure on Hurts despite bottling up the Eagles’ run game and making them essentially one-dimensional. Hurts was highly effective on third down, converting multiple third-and-long situations against a Titans’ secondary that was without Cor’Dale Flott.

The second half was a complete 180 from the first for the Titans.

They held the Eagles to just 41 yards of offense up until the final drive. Ward and the offense found a rhythm behind a strong push from the offensive line and multiple explosive plays that led to them scoring 10 points in the second half to take the lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Ultimately, it would all be for naught, as Hurts led a nine-play, 65-yard touchdown drive to win the game.

– Explosive Offense: Tennessee recorded five explosive plays in the game, with the biggest coming on a 41-yard reception by Elic Ayomanor.
– Philly Turnovers: Tennessee forced two interceptions and now has a +1 turnover differential.

– Open Runway: Tennessee could not stop the Eagles’ passing attack, allowing multiple third-and-long conversions.
– No Time: The Titans lost the time-of-possession battle for the second week in a row.
– Heartbreaker: The Titans lost on a game-winning drive despite holding the lead late in the game.
