NFL Power Rankings Week 2 – Step Up Or Step Out?

Ab Stanley

We officially have one week of NFL football in the books! It feels good to be back. After a first round of action, we had to shuffle the Power Rankings up a bit. Here’s how it shook out.

1. Kansas City Chiefs (1-0)
The Chiefs win another game on the last play and with a controversial call at that. I guess they can be lauded for their concentration and determination down the stretch of these games, but the fans might cry a bit about help from the officials.

2. San Francisco 49ers (1-0)
The 49ers showed total domination on both sides of the football against the Jets. San Francisco’s physical style might be unmatched across the league.

3. Detroit Lions (1-0)
The Lions journey to the Super Bowl started with a tough divisional game. They flexed their muscle in overtime and showed they are a team to be reckoned with.

4. Baltimore Ravens (0-1)
We can call it a toe, a foot, or even an inch – the Ravens just missed out at knocking off the world champs. Baltimore looks better than most of the teams that actually won their first game.

5. Philadelphia Eagles (1-0)
A. J. Brown, Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith and company really put on a show in Brazil. Jalen Hurts is going to have to cut down on his turnovers and the defense is going to have to step up, but things are looking great for the Eagles.

6. Houston Texans (1-0)
Joe Mixon ran for 159 yards and a touchdown in his Texans’ debut. Houston finished 22nd in rushing in the 2023, so Mixon could be the missing piece of their offense.

7. Buffalo Bills (1-0)
The Bills started off the game slow, but quickly showed their dominance. They outscored Arizona 24-11 in the second half. Josh Allen was responsible for three touchdowns by himself after halftime.

8. Dallas Cowboys (1-0)
After Dallas paid almost all of their top offensive players, it was their defense that played the best. They sacked Deshaun Watson six times and forced him to throw two interceptions.

9. Miami Dolphins (1-0)
Talk of the Dolphins’ high powered offense would have you forget they even have a defense. Well, that defense held the Jaguars scoreless in the second half of their week one matchup.

10. Cincinnati Bengals (0-1)
The Cincinnati Bengals were waiting for their quarterback Joe Burrow to return to get back to business. Unfortunately, the Joe Burrow they remember didn’t show up on Sunday.

11. Green Bay Packers (0-1)
Jordan Love will be out for a few weeks after suffering a knee injury in week one. Malik Willis will get the starting job in his absence.

12. New York Jets (0-1)
The Jets are a team where you can say “it’s only the first game of the season, they’ll be fine.”  It’s a bit concerning some of the same problems they had last year has popped up again in week one.

13. s Los Angeles Chargers (1-0)
Jim Harbaugh bought his rugged and rough rushing style and translated it right back into the NFL. The Chargers rushed for 176 yards on 27 carries and controlled the Raiders’ defense for the most part.

14. Chicago Bears (1-0)
No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams didn’t  have the greatest debut at quarterback, but he didn’t turn the ball over and his Bears got the win.

15. Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0)
Let’s see, run the football, force turnovers, sack the quarterback and win the game. Yup, typical Pittsburgh Steelers’ dominant performance.

16. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-0)
Baker Mayfield has been great in Tampa Bay. His latest game was a 289 yard, four touchdown performance in the win over Washington.

17. Seattle Seahawks (1-0)
Geno Smith had one of the best running plays of his career with his 34 yard TD scamper. He also added 171 passing yards and a touchdown in Seattle’s week one victory.

18. Cleveland Browns (0-1)
Deshaun Watson looked absolutely awful in his first game back since he got injured in the middle of last season. There could be more bad news on the horizon, with more legal trouble coming his way.

19. Indianapolis Colts (0-1)
Anthony Richardson finished with 268 total yards and three total touchdowns, while going toe to toe with the defending division champions. Colts could be a sleeper team to watch.

20. Minnesota Vikings (1-0)
The fans in Minnesota might’ve felt they had bad luck at the quarterback position, but Sam Darnold held his own. He had 208 passing yards and two touchdowns while leading his team to a 22 point victory.

21. Los Angeles Rams (0-1)
The Rams nearly pulled off the victory, but ran out of gas at the end. The loss of Puka Nacua will be a big factor going forward. Luckily, Cooper Kupp looks like he’s back to his 2021 form.

22. New Orleans Saints (1-0)
The Saints gave the Carolina Panthers a royal beat down. I mean there’s really nothing else to say. That was an epic thrashing on Sunday.

23. New England Patriots (1-0)
How many times have you heard about New England’s dominant defense? Guess what, that’s still the narrative around Patriots country after their first game this season.

24. Atlanta Falcons (0-1)
Everything the Falcons did to improve their team and their offensive line and they still struggled to keep Kirk Cousins upright. The defense played great not allowing a touchdown, but it was more of a bend don’t break performance than a domination.

25. Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1)
The Jaguars’ stigma of not being able to finish what they’ve started has reared it’s ugly head once again. Whether it’s coaching or the play on the field to blame, the Jaguars have to figure out what’s wrong.

26. Arizona Cardinals (0-1)
Marvin Harrison Jr.’s four total yards was the fewest amount of receiving yards gained by a wide receiver taken in the top five in his debut since Desmond Howard (1992).

27. Tennessee Titans (0-1)
The Titans were up 17-3 at halftime and everything looked great. In the second half they gave up two field goals and two touchdowns off of a blocked punt and an interception.

28. Las Vegas Raiders (0-1)
Gardner Minshew had good passing numbers, finishing with 257 yards and a touchdown through the air. Unfortunately, he was sacked four times and recorded two of the three turnovers committed by the Raiders.

29. Washington Commanders (0-1)
Jayden Daniels was pretty good in his first game behind center for the Commanders. He finished with 272 total yards and two rushing touchdowns. Washington has a lot of things to clean up, but it seems like they got that position in order.

30. Denver Broncos (0-1)
Bo Nix had a great preseason and followed it up with a less than stellar regular season debut. He finished with 138 passing yards and two interceptions. He did have a four yard touchdown run and it was just his first game.

31. New York Giants (0-1)
Daniel Jones has won one game as a starting quarterback since signing his four year $160 million contract. He has two touchdowns and eight interceptions during that span.

32. Carolina Panthers (0-1)
Carolina had 193 total yards and lost by 37 points to the New Orleans Saints. They have no semblance of a rushing attack and they can’t keep their young quarterback upright.

Offensive Player Of The Week

Saquon Barkley- Running Back, Philadelphia Eagles
109 rushing yards, 2 receptions for 23 yards, 3 total touchdowns

Defensive Player Of The Week

Alontae Taylor- Defensive Back, New Orleans
6 total tackles, 3.0 sacks, 1 pass deflection
