The Tennessee Titans have picked up where they left off offensively last season. Derrick Henry is still the focal point of the offense but the quarterback play of Ryan Tannehill has been spectacular to start the season, throwing six touchdown passes in two games with no interceptions.
While the offense has picked up where they left off, the defense showed up the first game but had a few issues in the second one.
A notable issue was one that will eventually be solved by the signing of Jadeveon Clowney. The veteran pass-rusher was mentioned as a missing piece for many teams until he signed with the Titans. As of now, Clowney has not been the force many expected him to be.
Plenty of that comes with him probably not being in the best football shape to start the season. However, the issue that has to be straightened out with Tennessee is his demeanor on the field.
When something exciting happens on the field, it seems that Clowney is in a different world.
An example of that is when linebacker Harold Landry III got an interception to seal the game this past Sunday versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Titans defense was excited and running around and in the background of the excitement, you can see Clowney just standing there with his hands on his hips.
Clowney will get in better shape but it just seems like either he is not interested at all times or just isn’t feeling it in Nashville so far. One guy outside of head coach Mike Vrabel that could assist in getting that energy going and easing him into at least letting loose is veteran cornerback Jonathan Joseph.
He and Clowney were teammates with the Houston Texans and more than likely knows him better than any of his teammates. With him playing on the defensive side of the ball with Clowney, maybe he could get him to loosen up a little and bring that type of energy that he is accustomed to bringing.
Hopefully Clowney gets more comfortable but for right now, he seemingly looks like the new kid in school around the others that have been going together for years.
The Titans will need him due to their pass rush being absent. For the Titans’ sake, hopefully he becomes more comfortable and eventually is involved more with his team. Because right now, he looks a lot like a loaner on the field for the Titans instead of an actual member of the team.
