Buford, Georgia – The Atlanta Falcons held their third practice of their training camp at Seckinger High School on Saturday evening in front of fans. The energetic crowd wasn’t disappointed as both sides of the ball were entertaining, especially the defense.

While it was a buzz in the crowd, it seemed as if the Falcons had a little pep in their step.

Newly acquired defensive end, Eddie Goldman talked about the energy and the affect it had on practice.

“With the fans added, it was a nice add-on. Practice is usually uptempo and it was good, it was nice,” said Goldman.

The defense had a better outing than they did on Friday. Highlighted by defensive lineman, David Onyemata, the “ones and twos” made big splash plays.

Onyemata was disruptive on defense during the 11-on-11 drills, He was able to get a sack by getting to Michael Penix Jr. before he could make any decision in the pocket. Then he stopped running back Avery Williams behind the line of scrimmage for a loss.

Defensive lineman Zach Harrison also recorded a sack on Kirk Cousins.

Second-year cornerback, Clark Phillips III, was able to get the first turnover in camp by intercepting Penix’s attempt on a third down.

“It was a great route by Rondale [Moore]. Penix was throwing the ball and it was a deep comeback on third down, stick route and I just jumped and believed what I saw,” stated Phillips.

On offense, Cousins came out sharpe once again and gave the crowd hope for what could be expected when he completed his first pass to tight end Kyle Pitts down the seam for a 23-yard gain. He hit Pitts on three different occasions, including another 20-yard completion.

Besides the interception by Penix, the rookie quarterback was able to lead the Falcons to a touchdown during the red zone drill. He connected with Moore on a 17-yard fade in the left corner of the end zone.

Penix had a great opportunity for another touchdown during the drill but the hometown kid, John FitzPatrick, dropped the potential touchdown in the end zone on fourth down.

The Falcons will practice again on Sunday before their first day off on Monday.
