After a trip to the Super Bowl and extending their franchise quarterback, the Philadelphia Eagles are riding high. But, the Super Bowl may have put the spotlight on some chinks in the armor for them. The Eagles have to get younger in some key spots and develop the future of the franchise.
Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State
Will McDonald IV, Edge, Iowa State
Siaki Ika, DL, Baylor
Philadelphia doesn’t have many holes on this roster but they do have some veterans that are on their way out. Darius Slay showed last year that he can still contribute as a outside corner, but getting a young replacement wouldn’t be such a bad thing. Joey Porter Jr. is a Penn State product and is one of the best cornerback prospects in the draft. His length will allow him to play outside and develop alongside two of the best in the business.
To further the plan for the future on defense, the Eagles could look at two defensive linemen to replace veterans Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham upon their eventual retirements. Will McDonald IV is versatile pass rusher who is as polished as any prospect in the draft. He could put on more muscle to fill out his frame but he is ready to contribute day one. Siaka Ika is a big body that will be relegated to a rotational role early, but has the ability to be a starter within a couple of years.
Philadelphia is in the driver seat of this draft. They can come out of this with not only good young contributors, but future starters that will keep their team competitive for years to come.
