Trench Work – Seattle Seahawks 2024 Draft Profile

In what has been a long time coming, the Seattle Seahawks have a new regime in place for the 2024 season. After what was an average campaign, tenured head coach Pete Carroll has moved to the front office to make way for new head man Mike McDonald.

The Seahawks now have the hard-nosed McDonald leading the charge, and will look to make a push to challenge the reigning San Francisco 49ers for the division. This draft could help them achieve that goal.

 

Chop Robinson, Edge, Penn State

Tyler Davis, DL, Clemson

Ethan Driskell, Tackle, Marshall

 

The Seattle Seahawks have been trying to recapture their identity as a defensive forward team for a couple of seasons now. Mike McDonald will help push that effort, and the beginning of that will be to bolster the trenches.

Seattle could attack that in the first two rounds by addressing the edge rusher and defensive tackle spots with their first two picks.

The calling card of a McDonald run defense is a versatile, athletic edge. As it stands, Boye Mafe fits that mold, but getting him a running mate should be a priority.

Chop Robinson is the perfect plug-and-play edge rusher for this Seahawk front. Robinson has the prototype build of a modern edge, standing 6’3″ 254lbs. His blend of athleticism, strength and ability will allow him to come in and contribute early while developing. McDonald will mold this young man into a lethal weapon, and a steady multi-sack edge in the NFL ranks.

The next position that could use some upgrading is the defensive tackle spot in the form of a solid nose tackle.

Tyler Davis out of Clemson has the skillset to clog space and be a one man wrecking crew playing over the center. He exhibits good hand discipline, easily shifting opposing blockers to get penetration and push the pocket. Davis can also slide into the 1-tech or 3-tech spot to create mismatches with his smooth rip and swim moves. 

The Seahawks should also look to build their offensive line back up in the mid to late rounds. After losing former starting guard Damien Lewis, they could find a viable option in the backend of the draft.

Ethan Driskell is a left tackle with good athleticism and strength that will allow him to kick inside. Driskell is a highly intelligent player, showing the awareness to identify stunts and pass them off while getting to his assignment. Driskell could be a high value guy at the next level due to the fact that he could play four of five line positions and develop into a starter as his career progresses.

If the Seahawks can fortify their ranks with a strong, trench heavy draft class, they could see themselves back in the playoffs in 2024.
