2025 Detroit Lions Draft Profile

Team Needs: Edge, DL, CB, IOL

Despite injuries, the Detroit Lions 2024 season saw them win 15 games en-route to clinching the NFC North division. Part of their success was the coaching, the other was the young players on the roster stepping up to the plate.

After a couple of strong draft classes, the Lions have built a good foundation to build on. The 2025 draft class is one of immense talent and depth which could further help the Lions reach their ultimate goal, a Super Bowl championship.

Possible Targets

Jack Sawyer – Edge, Ohio State

Benjamin Morrison – Cornerback, Notre Dame

Clay Webb – Interior Offensive Lineman, Jacksonville State

Aidan Hutchinson going down saw the Lions scramble to find a way to replace his production. They need to find a steady contributor on the other side of him and this draft has some good options. Day one should see them target one of the edge rushers in this class and solidify their front for the 2025 season.

Jack Sawyer is one of the most complete edge defenders in the 2025 class. Like Hutchinson, he excels at getting around the edge utilizing speed and power to devastate tackles. His hand placement may be some of the best in the class as he displays the ability to lock on and control blockers at the point of attack. Sawyer is also good enough to play independently, being able to beat double teams routinely. Getting the former Ohio State standout would give the Lions a young duo off the edge and a dependable pass rusher if Hutchinson goes down.

Staying on the defensive side of the ball, the defensive secondary took a big blow this offseason. Veteran Carlton Davis left in free agency and Amik Robertson may not be ready for the start of the regular season after suffering an arm injury in the playoffs. They have some young pieces and could look to add to them on day two.

Notre Dame product Benjamin Morrison was seen as a surefire first round pick by many prior to suffering a hip injury. He is one of the best lockdown man cornerbacks in the class when healthy possessing sound technique and smooth feet. His above average length and ability to track the ball are elite, making him a perfect fit for playing outside. Pairing him with young studs Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the future would give the Lions a formidable trio in their defensive backfield for years to come.

After losing Kevin Zeitler to free agency, the Lions will need to add to their offensive line. Their trench unit is one if not the best in the league and they have done a great job developing talent. Day three will have a good amount of interior offensive linemen that can develop into solid starters in the future, Detroit could target one of them.

Jacksonville State’s Clay Webb is a stout guard who can play all three interior positions. He has one of the best anchors in the draft and finishes blocks with tenacity. He needs some clean up on his pad level and technique, but has all the foundational skills to be an NFL contributor. Getting him in the building would give Detroit at least four years to develop and plug him in to play.

The Lions have become one of the league’s premier franchises due to their work in the draft. They can continue that trend with a strong showing in 2025.
