The Texas Rodeo – Dallas Cowboys 2023 Draft Profile

The Dallas Cowboys had an up and down season in 2022 that culminated in a playoff berth. Such is the nature of the Cowboys over the past several seasons, but they have a chance to build on the promising talent they have. The NFL Draft can be the steadying force for Dallas and help them get over the hump in 2023-24.

Jahmyr Gibbs, HB, Alabama

Derius Davis, WR, TCU

Jahleel Billingsley, TE, Texas

Dallas needs a refresh on offense and going all out for weapons in the draft isn’t a bad idea. Dak Prescott has the talent to be a Super Bowl contending quarterback but needs the guys around him to make that happen.

With the release of Ezekiel Elliott, Tony Pollard moves up into the starting position. Pollard will be rehabbing a lower leg injury sustained in the Divisional round of the playoffs and the Cowboys will need to find a viable option until his return. Dallas has been at their best when they have two backs that they can rotate in and that shouldn’t change now. Jahmyr Gibbs is a speedster with good vision and versatility. With Pollard moving into the “Zeke” role, Gibbs could fill the void of the dynamic backup.

Though the Cowboys made a move to bring in veteran pass catcher Brandin Cooks, they could still be in the hunt for a receiving threat. Derius Davis is a speed demon who routinely beat one on one coverage at TCU. Davis is similar in stature to Cooks but is faster and offers the ability to return kicks. Having him along side CeeDee Lamb would give the Cowboys a track team of a receiver corps for Prescott to throw to.

To add to that track team, the Cowboys could look to add a deep threat tight end to the mix. Jahleel Billingsley is in the Cowboys backyard and despite a lackluster college career, has all the traits of an elite pass catcher. Billingsley has the size, speed and willingness to block that teams look for in a tight end. In this Dallas offense he could shine and put their team over the top.

The up and down nature of the Cowboys could change with this draft. The offense could turn the corner and finally realize their potential, and deliver a championship run to Dallas.
