The Green Bay Packers are on the precipice of the Jordan Love era, and get to start with a clean rap sheet. Given the luck that the Pack have had with quarterbacks, it will be hard to believe that they won’t put Love in the best situation possible. With the draft upon us, there are a few prospects that would help speed up the development of their new signal caller.
Michael Mayer, TE, Notre Dame
A.T. Perry, WR, Wake Forest
Tuli Tuipulotu, Edge, USC
Every signal caller in the league needs a security blanket. The Packers have always done a great job at finding that player for their quarterbacks. Drafting Michael Mayer out of Notre Dame would be a great option to fill that role. His strong hands, system versatility and athleticism will allow him to translate his game early to the next level.
Sticking with the theme of getting more weapons for Jordan Love, the Packers will need to replenish the receiver room. A.T. Perry would be an excellent choice to pair with young pass catcher Christian Watson. Perry is a height, weight, speed specimen and can take the top off defenses with ease. His has solid hands that allow him to make contested catches and has played against top level competition with good production. With the loss of Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, Perry would be a welcome addition that can fill the void left by both.
The Packers have been one of the better defensive units in the league, and play with balance against the run and pass. They need pass rushing depth and versatile bodies. In the later rounds Green Bay should look at Tuli Tuipulotu, who is the epitome of versatile. Tuipulotu has played almost every position along the defensive line with plus production at each. Plugging him in on this front opens up a myriad of possibilities and for alignment packages. Having his presence in this limited role with also allow him to develop and eventually become a productive starter later on.
There is a new era beginning in Title Town, USA. The NFL Draft will be one of the first steps that primes the engine of this new regime.
