Syracuse outlasts Wake Forest

In the final game of the night, Syracuse deafeated Wake Forest 73-64. With a large pro Orange crowd, Syracuse jumped all over the DeaconDemons, 18-4. But the Orange stopped attacking the basket and shot way too many threes,letting Wake Forest back in the game. The Deacon Demons started pushing the ball and getting easy baskets before Syracuse could set up their zone defense. They cut the deficit to four with 4:19 left in the first half. The Orange did lead 30-24 at the half.

Syracuse came out in the second half attacking the basket and built the lead back up to 12, 38-26. The lead would balloon to 19 with 7:50 remaining. The Orange held control for most of the second half. But Wake Forest made things interesting, cutting the lead to seven with less than three minutes to go. Syracuse would close out the game at the free throw line.

Syracuse had all five starters in double digits, led by Marek Dolezaj’s 20 points. Tyus Battle has 18 points, Paschal Chukwu put in 14 points and 9 rebounds, Frank Howard chipped in 11 points and 5 assists and Oshae Brissett contributed 10 points and 9 rebounds. They take on North Carolina in the next round.
