Georgia State Baseball: Panthers Fall at Little Rock in Series Finale

LITTLE ROCK — Georgia State fell at Little Rock 16-1 Sunday at Gary Hogan Field as the Trojans swept the series.

The Panthers (20-31, 8-19) remain alive to earn a berth in the Sun Belt Conference tournament as GSU is tied with Appalachian State for the 10th and final spot entering the final regular season series. The Panthers host Georgia Southern, while App State travels to Coastal Carolina for its final series.

Little Rock (21-30, 11-16) clinched its berth in the conference tournament, jumping out in front quickly with four runs in the first inning and six more in the second. The GSU pitching staff struggled to find the strike zone, issuing 13 walks on the day.

First baseman Jack Thompson had two of the Panthers’ seven hits on the day and also made two sparkling defensive plays. Cam Sperry drove in the only run with a pinch-hit double.

The final home series against Georgia Southern opens Thursday at 6 p.m. at the GSU Baseball Complex. Senior Day will take place at Saturday’s 2 p.m. finale.
