Braves Conclude Final Day Of The 2018 First-Year Player Draft

ATLANTA – The Atlanta Braves today concluded the final 30 rounds of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft. After drafting eight college players with their first nine selections, the club used 26 of their 30 day-three picks on players from the collegiate ranks, including 14 pitchers. In all, the club drafted 39 players, including four from the state of Georgia.

The Braves selected 22 pitchers (five left-handers, 17 right-handers), four outfielders, four catchers, and nine infielders. Nine of their college selections were seniors, while one was a draft-eligible sophomore and five were from the junior college ranks.

After selecting RHP Carter Stewart from Eau Gallie High School in Melbourne, Fla., with their first choice, the Braves used 34 of their next 35 picks on collegiate players. Atlanta chose RHP Victor Vodnik from Rialto High School in Rialto, Calif., in the 14^th round, before taking three high schoolers with their final three picks. The Braves’ final selection of the day was C Micky Mangan from Pinecrest Academy in Cumming, Ga. Mangan, son of Braves Field Director Ed Mangan, hit .322 with a .450 on-base percentage for the Paladins this season.
