Truist Park – It was the combination of the bats and Chris Sale for the Atlanta Braves (10-6) that lead to a 13-1 win over the Cleveland Guardians (9-7). The Braves are the only team in MLB that haven’t lost a series this season.

Atlanta’s offense was the highlight of the game accumulating a season-high 19 hits. Jorge Mateo went 4-4, scored twice and recorded a RBI. Ozzie Albies went 3-4 with two runs and a RBI and Mauricio Dubon went 3-4 with three runs and a RBI.

Walt Weiss acknowledged the bottom third of the lineup hitting extremely well and helping the “big boys”.

“It’s exciting to think about,” stated Weiss. “We’ve had a few game where we put it all together but if we get this offense clicking on all cylinders, it’s going to be fun to watch”

Matt Olson singled and doubled, which extended his extra base hit streak to five in a row.

Braves got started in the second inning scoring three runs. Dubon and Ronald Acuna Jr. each doubled in a run (Dominic Smith, Mateo) and Mateo singled in a run (Dubon), all with two outs.

In the fourth inning, after a leadoff single by Albies, Smith homered (3) to left field to push the lead 5-0.

The Braves broke it wide open it in the fifth inning with five hits, including a two-run double by pinch hitter Kyle Farmer. Austin Riley, Olson, Albies and Dubon all hit singles and scored except for Dubon who was thrown out trying to get the double.

Chris Sale pitched six innings, striking out six batters, giving up eight hits, one walk and a run (home run). He was able to get out of jams in both the first and third innings, which he stranded two base runners in each.

Sale was able to get as high as 99.4 mph at times during the game. Sale talked about doing what needed to be done.

“There was some spots I got into. I don’t know if I had any 1-2-3 innings,” said Sale. “Some of the situations dictated for me needing to hump up and get some outs when I needed to.”

Dylon Dodd pitched three innings and was awarded the save.

The Braves start a three-game home-stand against the Miami Marlins on Monday at 7:15 pm.
