Brooklyn, New York- The 2018 ACC Tournament opened up with the Boston College Eagles (18-4) defeating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (13-19) 87-77.
The Eagles got off to a hot start and took an early nine point lead. The Yellow Jackets regained their composure, cutting the lead to four with about six minutes left in the first half. Boston College got back control and went into the halftime break up 36-26.
Boston College came out of halftime with the intent on putting Georgia Tech away by playing very aggressively. With guard Ky Bowman leading the way offensively, the Eagles had their biggest lead of 20 points with 13:37 in the second half.
The Yellow Jackets refused to go away, showing resiliency. They eventually cut the deficit to seven, 72-65, with 2:22 left. Georgie Tech got as close as six with 44 seconds remaining but Boston College closed the game by hitting their free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Boston College was led by Ky Bowman 26 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Nik Popovic added 20 points, Jerome Robinson contributed 19 points and Jordan Chatman chipped in with 13 points. The Eagles will face the North Carolina State Wolfpack next.
