Georgia State Baseball: Jones, Harper Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

ATLANTA — Georgia State shorstop Justin Jones and pitcher Rhett Harper were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team, announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Harper, with a 4.15 grade point average in accounting and finance, and Jones, with a 4.08 GPA in health and physical education, have the two highest GPAs on any of the All-District teams across the country.

Both student-athletes are now eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America team. Jones was a third-team Academic All-America last season.

A junior from Warner Robins, Ga. (Houston County HS), Jones is a three-year starter at shortstop. He is hitting .273 with one homer and 17 RBI, including game-winning hits in extra-inning victories over Ole Miss and ULM.

Harper, a junior from Chatsworth, Ga. (Southeast Whitfield HS), is the Panthers’ closer with a 1-0 record, four saves and a 1.62 ERA.

Georgia State placed multiple student-athletes on the CoSIDA Academic All-District team for the second straight year, after three Panthers were honored last season.
