MOBILE, ALA. — Georgia State dropped Game 2 of its series at South Alabama 16-6 Saturday at Stanky Field in a game that was moved up to 11 a.m. local time due to impending inclement weather.
South Alabama (13-9, 4-1 Sun Belt) jumped in front quickly with three runs in the first inning and five in the second to win its fifth straight game. The Jaguars got a three-run homer by Davis Wells in the first and then a grand slam from Travis Swaggerty in the second.
USA left-hander Thomas Huston (2-1) held the Panthers (11-12, 1-4 Sun Belt) scoreless for the first five innings before GSU got on the board in the sixth on Jarrett Hood’s two-run single. That made the score 8-2, but South Alabama scored eight in the bottom of the inning to put the game away.
Georgia State added a two-run single by Justin Jones in the seventh and then a two-run double by Payton Mann in the eighth.
Jones, Ryan Blanton, Darius Sewell and Will Kilgore had two hits each for the Panthers.
Sunday’s series finale is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
