Georgia State’s Devin Mitchell Named Sun Belt Player Of The Week

NEW ORLEANS-Georgia State junior Devin Mitchell led the Panthers to a pair of key road wins while shooting the lights out from 3-point range to earn Sun Belt Player-of-the-Week honors as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Mitchell earned the honor for the first time in his career. It is the second-straight week a member of the team has won the award as sophomore D’Marcus Simonds earned the recognition last week. It is the third-time a Panther has won the award this year.

Mitchell led the Panthers to a 2-0 road trip in Arkansas by averaging 24.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game.

In Georgia State’s 81-51 win over Little Rock on Saturday, Mitchell scored a career-high 38 points while knocking down 10 3-pointers. Mitchell went 10-of-13 from 3-point range and finished 12-of-16 from the floor with six rebounds and four assists.

Mitchell’s 10 3-pointers are tied for the second-most in school history. The 38 points scored by the junior is tied for the eighth-most in school history, is the most-ever for a member of the team in a Sun Belt game and established a new Jack Stephens Center record. The 10 3-pointers are also the second-most by a player in the NCAA this year.

He opened the week with eight points, four steals, three assists and a rebound in Georgia State’s 77-66 win over Arkansas State.

For the season, Mitchell is averaging 11.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game, shooting 45.3 percent from the floor and 44.2 percent from 3-point range. He has a team-high 65 3-pointers this year.

The Panthers will return to the court on Thursday for a match-up of the top two teams in the Sun Belt as Louisiana comes to the Sports Arena for a 7:15 p.m. tip. Tickets can be purchased by visiting GeorgiaStateSports.com/Tix.
