Nashville, TN — The Tennessee Titans suffered a close loss at the hands of their AFC South rival Houston Texans, 16–13, coming off the bye week. In spurts, the offense looked the best it has all year while the defense played well… just not well enough for a struggling team.
Overview
Defensively, the Titans showed the grit and mentality that has become their calling card all year. They pitched a shutout in the first half, the first of the season, giving themselves some cushion.
Jeffery Simmons and Arden Key both returned from injury and gave the unit a major boost. Tennessee held Houston out of the end zone for most of the game outside of one touchdown drive in the third quarter, which was part of 13 unanswered points scored.
The secondary’s depth was tested as the game went on but the group held its own for the most part.
Cameron Ward and the offense looked primed for a win and gave a strong showing against one of the better defenses in the league but couldn’t muster up enough points.
The young quarterback flashed the traits that made him the top pick in the draft, going 24-37 for 194 yards and a touchdown. His heroics shined as he led a game-tying touchdown drive in the fourth quarter, highlighted by a 39-yard pass to Chig Okonkwo to put the team in scoring range.
Ultimately, Ward’s efforts were not enough as the Titans fell to a walk-off field goal and dropped to 1–9 on the season.
Positives:
- 1 Is The 1!: Ward flashed for a team searching for hope in the future.
- Defend The Defense: Tennessee showed a lot of fight on defense. They held the Texans to one touchdown on three trips in the red zone.
Negatives:
- Injury to Insult: Calvin Ridley (broken fibula), Chimere Dike (chest) and Elic Ayomanor (hamstring) all suffered injuries during the game.
- Penalty Box: Tennessee had nine penalties for 62 yards.
- Consistently Inconsistent: Tennessee could not sustain their momentum and energy for the entire game—an ongoing issue this season.
Tennessee will be back at Nissan Stadium against the Seattle Seahawks for their Week 12 matchup.
