Jozy Altidore Named MLS Player Of The Week

Toronto FC forward Jozy Altidore was named the Alcatel Major League Soccer (MLS) Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 27 of the 2017 MLS season.

Altidore’s two goals in a 26-minute span against the San Jose Earthquakes helped power the Reds to a 4-0 victory this past weekend. The two goals were his 50th and 51st of his MLS career in regular season play and he registered his eighth brace of his MLS career. Toronto FC opened up a nine-point gap atop the Supporters’ Shield standings, and became the first team to clinch a spot in the 2017 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs with the victory. Altidore was also named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 27.

Toronto FC’s all-time list of MLS Player of the Week honours includes: Justin Morrow (Week 23 – 2017) Sebastian Giovinco (Week 8, 21, 25 – 2017, Weeks 20, 22 – 2016 & Weeks 13, 14, 19 – 2015) Jozy Altidore (Week 27 – 2017, Week 1 – 2015), Jermain Defoe (Week 2 – 2014), Robert Earnshaw (Week 2 – 2013), Danny Koevermans (Week 17 – 2012 & Week 27 – 2011), Joao Plata (Week 8 – 2011), Dwayne De Rosario (Weeks 5, 10 – 2010), Amado Guevara (Week 10 – 2009) and Chad Barrett (Week 17 – 2009).

The Alcatel MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
