Georgia State Gets Rare Road Win To Stay In The Hunt

Georgia State Panthers (18-10, 11-5 Sun Belt) gets their second straight victory and a rare road win against the Little Rock Trojans (13-15, 4-11, Sun Belt) 71-54. The Panthers came into the today’s game tied for third in the Sun Belt Conference.

The game started out close with Georgia State going into halftime up 31-30. The Panthers once again came out of halftime finding their rhythm and playing great defense. Georgia State held the Trojans to just 38% shooting from the field. The Panthers shot 44% themselves.

The bench provided a huge lift by scoring 32 points. Devin Mitchell led the pack scoring 16 points going 6-12 from the field. This is Mitchell’s second straight game scoring double digits points off the bench (14 points against Texas State). Guard D’Marcus Simonds added 10 points.

The Panthers dominated in the paint with a 42-29 rebounding advantage and outscored the Trojans in the paint with 34 points. Forward Wille Clayton contributed nine points and seven rebounds which helped anchored the inside domination.

With the win, Georgia State is tied for second in the conference with Georgia Southern and 1.5 back from first place. Their next game is on the road against Arkansas State on Monday.
