Atlanta, Ga – The Atlanta Falcons put out an abysmal performance in their 34-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Yet still, the confidence has not squandered and there is still belief they can turn it around.
After the offense struggled in their 13-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday night, the offense went from bad to worse with Kirk Cousins starting for the injured Michael Penix Jr.
Cousins, who was 21-31 for 173 yards with no touchdowns or turnovers, never got in a rhythm and wasn’t on the same page with his receivers for most of the game.
The running game was even worse. Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgier combined for only 29 yards on 13 carries.
Head coach Raheem Morris isn’t blaming anyone specifically for the awful performance.
“It’s tough to discuss anybody’s play when you go out that way,” stated Morris. “It was bad across the board, it starts with us and it’s something we have to fix all together and we gotta get those things done this week.”
Defensively, the unit didn’t play any better, allowing 24 first downs, 141 rushing yards and four passing touchdowns by Tua Tagovailoa.
Despite the bad play, the team’s confidence hasn’t wavered. According to linebacker Kaden Ellis, they aren’t worried about not turning it around but he also has faith that Morris will steer them in the right direction.
“You gotta look in the mirror hard and self assess. Assess as a defense, offense and special teams,” said Ellis. “And thankfully we got Rah [Raheem Morris] to help us do that.”
Cornerback A.J. Terrrell believes that the Falcons have all the pieces to right the ship and make a run this season.
“I’ve been here for six years and I just know what we have in the building and I just know we have the pieces to the puzzle offensively and defensively, and I feel like we have a great special teams as well,” Terrell mentioned.
It’s plenty of games left in the season and it only takes one win to start a streak. The key into getting that first win is to believe in one another.
“That’s the easy part, these guys won’t stray away from each other,” said Morris. “The locker room will stay together and they’ll stay bonded.
