AKRON, Ohio – Senior running back Van Edwards, Jr. (Cape Coral, Fla.) was tabbed the Zips’ Summa Health Student-Athlete of the Week on September 12.
In Akron’s 41-7 win over Morgan State, Edwards led the Zips on the ground with 109 yards, marking the second 100-yard rushing performance of his career. He had 17 carries and two touchdowns on the day. Additionally, Edwards had two receptions for 22 yards. He finished the game with a team-best 131 all-purpose yards.
In the MAC stats, Edwards is No. 1 in rushing (109.0), No. 1 in scoring (12.0), No. 1 in scoring TDs (12.0), and No. 2 in all-purpose yards (131.0).
Under the guidance of seventh-year head coach Terry Bowden, Akron (1-0 overall) travels to Northwestern (1-1 overall) on Saturday, Sept. 15, for a 7:30 p.m. ET game on the Big Ten Network.
