Bart Named a 2017 Johnny Bench Award Semifinalist

WICHITA, Kan. – Georgia Tech sophomore catcher Joey Bart is one of just fifteen semifinalists for the 2017 Johnny Bench Award, presented by BaseballSavings.com. it was announced on Wednesday night by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission.

The Johnny Bench Award is given to the nation’s top catcher at the NCAA Division I level each season by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission.

Finalists for the award will be announced on June 5 and the award will be presented on June 29 at the 20th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet.

Bart was named both the National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball and the ACC Player of the Week on March 6 and then earned Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week recognition on March 7.

Also named to the Midseason Perfect Game/Rawlings College Baseball All-American First Team and recognized as a D1Baseball Midseason All-American, Bart is hitting .296 (55-for-186) with 13 home runs, 13 doubles, 43 RBIs and 36 runs scored on the season overall.

The sophomore was also added to the 2017 Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, a list of the top 40 college players in the nation, on May 2.
